Luggage: 4 wheel vs. 2 wheel
I'm considering a carryon bag that comes in both 2- and 4-wheel styles. It's the International Traveller 22" hardside.
The 4-wheel costs just a little more and only weighs a few ounces more. Is it worth considering? I've never used one so I don't know the benefits of the 4-wheeler.
2-wheel

Weighs 7.8 lbs
4-wheel

Weighs 8 lbs (per email from Irv's)
Thanks

I tried one of these in a store and I don't like the way the wheels stand out from the case. I prefer the hidden recessed wheels that can't get knocked off or ruined in transport.
At one point in my life I had luggage with wheels that poked out like that and as soon as one was damaged that was the end of that.

I'd go 4 wheel every time. The wheels spin 360 degrees which means you can push it by the handle any which way you like and it'll always go in the right direction. My 2 wheeler is much more cumbersome in this respect and requires more effort on my part to drag it along.

Please, do yourself a favor and go to www.ebags.com and see if this product is listed. If it is there will probably be customer reviews of it which I have always found to be very helpful.
I know that some of the four-wheel luggage has been criticized as being unstable and poorly-made.

Ebags doesn't have this product...or anything else similar or in the price range. The only place I found this particular bag was at Irv's.
I found a (heavy) 4x4 in a local store. It had the upright handle and tilted on the "width" side for rolling (as opposed to the narrow "depth" side).
The handle didn't tilt. To use the 4 wheels, I moved it around with my toe. There was no strap to pull it with.
Am I missing something? I know some people swear by the 4 wheeler. But do they only come in handy when one is waiting in line---and you can nudge it along with your foot? Or do you move it using the upright handle---that seems a little awkward.

No, I pull up the handle and push it along using that. I rarely drag it along behind me unless I'm going up a ramp or something where pushing would require more effort.
I find it much less effort than dragging it along like a 2 wheeler, as the nature of dragging it means you have to bare some of the weight yourself (I realise as I type this that I'm sounding very lazy).

Sorry there wasn't anything on E-bags. Kate, i don't think you are lazy at all! I once bought some luggage which actually allowed you to pull it two-wheel style or four-wheel style like a wagon...and pulling was a lot easier than the two-wheel mode.
Unfortunately, the luggage was not well-constructed and one of the wheel assmblies got ruined on the very first trip I took with it. Great concept because you could load other bags on top when using it "wagon-style."

Thanks, Kate. This is becoming clearer now.
You are talking about the retractable trolley handle, right? So, does the handle stick straight up while you're pushing, or can you angle it? .
That's the part I'm having a hard time picturing.

Do you have luggage shops to see these different bags in person? A new suitcase is one thing (like shoes) that I would never buy online. I need to see, touch, push, pull it around. And even then it's hard to know until you actually travel with a bag a few trips, if you'll like it or not. Good luck Jeanne!
