Lucca accommodations

Does anyone have any suggestions for a place to stay in Lucca for one night (family of four)? The Hotel Piccolo and La Luna are not available. Neither is the Palazzo Alexander, though that's more than we want to spend anyway. Thanks!

Cindy,
we stayed at the Hotel Diana in Lucca which is 3 star, typical hotel-style room, very clean, and about 10 min walk from the train station. There is the older main building then an annex which is actually a separate building around the corner. The annex has been completely redone and is new inside. That's where we stayed and it is dearer than the main building. I had heard the main building often smelt of cigarette smoke which I can't stand.
Kay

Our family of four stayed at the Diana last summer. It's true that the man at the front desk smoked, but the hotel room didn't smell of smoke, and he was very friendly. The large room we had was on the ground floor (in the main hotel), with four beds right next to each other. There wasn't really any other room, since the beds took up so much space. The windows opened up to a garden area. The bathroom was great.

Thank you, Kay and jk, but I just checked, and the Hotel Diana is full, too! Any other suggestions?

In '99 I stayed at the Hotel San Marco just outside the city walls. It's a lovely place, fairly new.

We stayed at the Stipino (115) which is outside the city wall. Okay, large room, enough off the main street so it was relatively quiet. When we came back to Lucca (we loved Lucca and stayed for several days) we stayed at La Luna, which was a smaller room, but more fun to be in the old city. Lucca has a good tourist desk that can help you find accomodations if you are still stuck at the last minute. Maybe you can even contact them via fax. Enjoy your trip.

I don't have access to my files right now, but I think the name is Hotel Universo. They had several family rooms, one was an upstairs/downstairs arrangement that looked interesting. Great location inside the walls.

Try www.villaromantica.it , we stayed last year, it's a 10-15 minute walk to the walls.
