Loved Amsterdam - where next?

Have only been to Europe 2x in my 50 years, and want to travel more. We went to A'dam and Brugge and loved it. What country/city should I next consider? It will be only a weeklong trip. I own my own business and cannot get away for long. I am very open to suggestion.

I live in Amsterdam - glad you liked it here! I love New York, the cities have a lot in common although NY is a bit bigger....

My favourite cities in Europe include Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, London, Prague, Siena, and Rome.

Hi NNY,

I suggest you go to Paris.

(I always suggest that anyone go to Paris.)

I second the Paris nomination, I just returned from my 7th trip. You can read my weblog from the trip at

Being from NYC you should be able to get around Paris easily. I think if you see nothing else then Paris should be next.

My other suggestions are -

Rome - amazing food, friendly people, great sights and a city that moves at 1000 miles and hour!

London - But don't go til the value of the dollar is better. Its a great city but real expensive.

Munich - I threw this in because you like Amsterdam. I loved Munich and found it to have the best shopping, most friendly people and yummy food.

Thanks for the input. I should have mentioned - my other trip was London and Paris! Italy intrigues me, as do the Scandanavian countries, Switzerland...Anyway, keep those suggestions coming, as we are about to start planning a 50th b-day trip for a friend. This site was so instrumental in making our recent trip an overwhelming success.

Rome! And if you have the time, also include Venice and maybe Florence.

Hi NNY,

If you liked Amsterdam a lot, then I would strongly recommend Copenhagen (great place!), perhaps combined with Oslo or Stockholm.

Or perhaps a classic Oslo/Bergen combo (never been to Bergen, so can't judge).

Hope this helps,
Andre

Don't overlook Barcelona. Or you could do a combination trip to Vienna, Ptague and Budapest.

Since you have been to two places in northern europe - why not go elsewhere in Europe? Spain, Italy or Greece are good options.

Experience: Lived in Germany in the 70s while in the Army. Got to see all of Europe when my wife and I were in our 20s. Have made 25+ trips to Europe in the past 20 years. So where to go?

You need to do Northern Italy....Bellagio area, Como. Fantastic part of the world.

Venice: The unique city to see. Most love it, some do not. All need to see Venice and then form your own opinion.

Roma: The classic city in Europe.Crowded, pickpockets, dirty...but the most concentrated area with things to see anywhere.

Bavaria: Our favorite part of the world. But we are predjudiced in that area. Beautiful area in the fall. I spent birthday #50 as planned...drinking a beer in Bavaria with my wife and friends. Hard to beat!

Just explore! Go by car and see the little cities...these are where the adventures begin!
