LOOKING FOR A REASONABLE B&B IN THE VATICAN AREA

If you have been to Rome/Vatican lately and have stayed at a really good B&B or hotel for that matter, pls recommend...my budget is Euro 100/day for a double room. I want a B&B that is right across or beside the Vatican. Thank you.

While not right next to the Vatican, the Hotel Florida is a five minute walk and should be within your budget. It is a ** and a nice clean place. See trip advisor reviews. I don't think that breakfast is included, at least it wasn't when we stayed there but there are plenty of places to eat nearby.

We stayed at the Madri Pie (Pi?), which is right behind the Vatican. It was a pilgrimage, but I think they take other guests.

Why do you want to be across from the Vatican? It really is not the best area to be staying at in Rome even if you are a very devout Catholic.

Check out Best B&B. They have a couple of locations in Rome , one of them is near the Vatican. A friend of mine stayed and was very pleased.

This hotel is very near, and two ladies I know stayed there recently. They were pleased.

Al Colonnato di San Pietro bed and breakfast is very highly rated on tripadvisor.com. It may be a bit above your budget, depending on whether you need a single or double, and when you are traveling.

Consider staying with the Sisters at Fraterna Domus - about a ten minute walk from the Vatican, and five minutes from Piazza Navona.

Rates are very reasonable - under 100 euros per night for a double.

It's basic, comfortable accomodation and very clean - plus they offer a good 3-course "family style" dinner for 12 euros.

There's no website, but here's the contact information with e-mail:

Fraterna Domus
Via Monte Brianzo, 62
00186 Roma

tel. 06 6880 2727
fax. 06 68 32 691
e-mail. [email protected]

Saw this article in Budget Traveler's about affordable hotels in Rome . . . . didn't go thru them all to see whether any are in your requested neighborhood.

My wife and I stayed at Al Colonnato di San Pietro and were treated to an absolutely clean, quiet, comfortable, well appointed room with private bath a couple of years ago.

You can't see St. Peter's Square from the windows, but you can see the glow from there at night.

It gets my highest recommendation...repeat business.
