Looking for a country manor-type hotel/spa near London

I'd like to end a trip to London with my 13-year old daughter with a night or two at a country manor-type of hotel unlike anything she's every experienced here in the States. I've been looking at places in the Costwolds and fell in love with Calcot Manor, but unfortunatley there is no availability for the dates I need in April. Any suggestions are most appreciated -- just looking for something different and less urban. We'll leave from Heathrow at the end so the closer to London the better....

That does look gorgeous Kate, but £14.50 for an a la carte starter, and mains £30-£60 in the main restaurant - holy Jaysus!

I was about to recommend a particular hotel / spa but noticed that they restrict access for under 16s - no hot tub, no jacuzzi, no sauna etc and the 'family' swimming times are limited. This may well only be this particular hotel but perhaps you should be aware of possible restrictions when considering hotel / spas.

I can dream!

I stayed at their smaller sister hotel, The Pig, for my birthday. My oh my, pure indulgence.

Sorry to high-jack, but thank you Kate! Have bookmarked both the Pig and the Limewood for possible June/July 2013 trip. Gorgeous, both of them.

These are fabulous ideas! I want to do something fairly high-end -- was thinking $500-$800 a night.

I've looked into most of the places mentioned -- several do not have availability and some do not allow 13 year olds in the restaurants, pools, etc. Right now I'm focusing on Pennyhill Park and Limewood. How long will it take to get to Heathrow form Limewood?

We are also considering a day trip to Cardiff (my daughter's a Dr. Who fanatic!) so we could also look at places between Cardiff and London. Any further suggestions or additional information?

If I had that sort of money to burn on one night near London I'd look at somewhere like Cliveden House http://www.clivedenhouse.co.uk/

I would recommend Cliveden. It is very close to London and Heathrow, but in the middle of the countryside with good views. the location is midway between London and the Cotswolds. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the service exemplary. The gardens are nice to explore, as is the nearby area and they have outdoor hot tubs. The food is as you would expect from a luxury hotel. I have not been since the collapse of the Von Essen group - so you may wish to check recent reports....
