When we were in London this past May, we went on the Thames Pub Walk - I think this was the name. The walk combines visits to three pubs with Thames river history. We began at the Black Friars tube station and ended near the Southwark Cathedral. We only visited three pubs, but we went through the Tate Modern, crossed the Millenium Bridge and went by the Borough Market. I would definitely recommend this walk; however, dress warmly - by end of the walk it was chilly in late May.

If you look at http://www.walks.com/
you'll see lots of good walks most of which take you outside the usual touristy areas. The legal London one takes you to some of the Inns of Court, they have the peace and atmosphere of an Oxbridge college but are in the heart of London.

Hi Mike.
I have lived in London for 8 years. I did a few walks with www.london.walks.com and thoroughly enjoyed them. It was the most fun I have had in a long time. Brilliant guides - characters and extremely knowledgable. Any of their walks are fun - try the Greenwich walk where you get to go on the River Thames ferry for only £3 (usually about £8). Any of these walks would be informative and fun.

Mike: If you haven't already, search for London Walks on this forum and you'll probably bring up more comments. I've gone on 4 London Walks. The Thames Pub walk was very scenic and enjoyable. Also did the Chelsea pub walk, perhaps less scenic but fun. The Chelsea walk was a bit more residential, so it had more about what famous person lived here, etc. Did Eccentric London recently. Ok. As can be expected some tidbits of info are more interesting than others. Also did a general crimes walk years ago (don't recall the name). Interesting. I think the pub walks are a little more relaxed and enjoyable, in that you stop here and there for a pint. The non-pub walks cover a lot of ground and, if you are like us and have already been walking a lot during our vacation, the additional walking can be tiring.
