Check out The Berkely in Knightsbridge. It's across from Hyde Park, within walking distance of Harrod's, Harvey Nichols and plenty of restaurants. The Caramel Room in the hotel serves a good breakfast as well as a spectacular afternoon Pret A Porter tea. The refurbished rooms are traditional English "posh". Our attached two room "suite" was wonderful. On registration a tea tray - or coffee -with biscuits is sent up to your room. Our children were given balloons, candy, china egg cups and small robes with slippers and were served a pot of hot chocolate along with the grown ups tea tray when it was brought after check in.

I stayed at the Beaufort a few years ago. It was a lovely boutique hotel, just around the corner to Harrod’s. There was a cream tea in the afternoon, breakfast, etc. We arrived very early in the morning and they were more than accommodating, providing tea and biscuits and allowing us to check in early. I would recommend it.

My family members recommend the Cadogan or the Goring.

My sister loves the Goring.

The Basil Street Hotel. Old world elegance.

BTW Selfridges isn't near Harrods.

Group that runs The Knightsbridge also owns Number 16 in South Ken. Have heard good things about both. www.firmdalehotels.com
