Hi guys,

I will be in London over the weekend for a Monday business meeting and it worked out so that I will be alone on from a Saturday afternoon (this month) thru Sunday late afternoon. I've lived in the city back in 2002 and have done all the major attractions (incl the good museums), as well as day trips to Stonehenge, Oxford and Cambridge.

Any suggestions on now I can spend my time? Any new most-sees that have sprang up in the last 6 years, I'm sure there are! Also any tips for restaurants, shopping? I'm 25 years old and will be staying at Le Meridien in Piccadilly (to add some context).

On the Saturday afternoon I would go to the Derek Jarman exhibition at the Serpentine (starts 23/2) or the paintings from Russia at the Royal Academy.

On Saturday night I would go to something at or by the National Theatre - 'The Hour We Knew Nothing Of Each Other' or 'The History Boys' (at Wyndham's Theatre in the West End).

Sunday I would spend at Tate Modern. If it's a nice day, it would be pleasant to walk there along the South Bank.

A nice restaurant to try for solo dining is Arbutus, in Soho. If you are by yourself you can sit at the bar for your meal and watch the action. They also do good value pre/post theatre meals if you decide to see a show. More info here: http://tinyurl.com/36x576

Why bother with "must-sees" at your age? You've got at least another 60 years of travelling to waste on tourist cliches.

Buy a copy of Time Out before your plane takes off, spend the flight seeing what's currently on then decide what suits you.

Take in a museum or exhibition during the afternoon (or go to a football match - that's something you can't experience at home).

Maybe do one of the saturday afternoon walks?

In the evening what about a comedy club? Or a gig - depending on what's on (the 12 bar club is usually OK - it's in Denmark St).

A wander down Old Compton St (perfectly safe) is an eye opening experience - there's lots of pubs and being predominantly gay are safe places for a woman to get a drink.

Thanks for the great responses! I was actually thinking of taking in a show, never got to do that last time. I had gone on a "London Walk last time I was there, and loved it. Also a great idea!

You also have access to essentially all the Time Out listings on line www.timeout.com and can use features to search such as topic, date, area, "critics choice", free, etc. and then if you find an exhibit or a show you can use the same page you found it on to see where to eat or dring nearby.
