London Neighborhood

Hello,

We looking for a rental in London and have seen one we are interested in on Abingdon Rd. in Kensington. Can anybody tell me what type of neighborhood this is? Is it safe to walk there at night? Thank-you, Ed

Other than being a bit far from a tube station , the location is fine. I'm not familiar with the bus routes so transport night be okay

Actually, it isn't that far from High Street Kens tube station, and the bus service along Kensington High street is excellent.

It is a fairly upscale neighborhood.

Hello, thank-you for your reply. Do you know what type of businesses are in the area? Shops, restaurants?

regards,

Ed

Hi Ed,

I'm wondering the same thing. We have found an apt through VBRO #65836 and I'm very curious about the location and it's surroundings. It's so hard to tell just how near - or far you are from things

It is a great location if you want to visit the museums as there are several within a short walk (about 15 minutes) - you are also near Hyde Park. There are plenty of buses in the area which can take you into the heart of the west end where you will find plenty of shops, theatres and restaurants, although there should be plenty of restaurants in the Kensington area, especially near High Street Kensington tube station and Earl's Court areas.

As far as safety is concerned, it's the same as any other large city - take the usual precautions and you will be fine.

Regards

Andy.

Abingdon Rd is quite close to High St Kensington tube station - an easy walk. There are shops and restaurants all around the area, particularly on Kensington High Street.

To see the area at street level on Google Maps, first key in the street name and suburb, then zoom in a little. Click on the yellow figure of the little man and drag on to the street. You will see the street as if you were standing there. The area should be perfectly safe, just remember you are in a big city and don't flash cash etc - normal precautions.

One thought for anyone visiting London, it's best to try and get a place to stay near a tube station with more than one line as often on weekends there is maintenance done and some lines can be closed. This doesn't usually happen during the week. Buses will be running anyway even if the tube line is closed. Check the tube map on www.tfl.gov.uk

A nice reasonable restaurant nearby is Chez Gerard. It's down from Ken. High st tube station. Also Cafe Concerto directly across the street from the tube is excellent for breakfast lunch and dinner.

For your flat - there is a grocery store just around the corner on Kens High Street. It used to be a Sainsbury's but I think it changed brand and is possibly a Tesco now.
