Salisbury Cathedral is an absolute must IMO. If you enjoyed Sarum then a day trip to Salisbury, Old Sarum, Stonehenge, Avebury and maybe Devizes would be a highlight. And easily doable w/ a car collected and dropped back at LHR. I wouldn't try to cram Bath or anything farther west than Devizes.

Not to beat a dead horse - but the ays really are very short. It wo't be light until after 8 am and will be dark before 4 pm - you only have about 7.5 huors of aylight per day. Do consider this when deciding what you can cover.

Obviousy indoors is fine - but outdoors you need to schedule carefully - keeping in mind the possibility of rain.

I usually return to London in early November but we did go for Thanksgiving one year (2003, I think).
It was cold and rained heavily. It was one of the wettest Novembers on record. The wind made umbrellas useless but I at least had a warm waterproof coat and waterproof boots. My family fared less well as their coats were merely showerproof.

After paddling outside for a couple of hours each day we returned to the hotel cold and drenched to attempt to dry off before bracing ourselves for battling the elements in search of dinner. We opted to take a breather in a cafe for an hour one day and sat with many other steaming tourists!

I wish you better weather but take waterproof clothing!

I realize there are nicer times of the year to visit London, but we have this block of time now, so why not? I will be sure to pack lots of layers!! Maybe I'll wear my snowboots on the airplane! .

if you are going to Salisbury, do read "The Spire" by William Golding - a fantastic fictional account of the building of Salisbury Cathedral.

It would be easy to take a bus tour to Salisbury, Stonehenge and Bath. Cost about 60 pounds each and leave from near Victoria around 0830 and return about 1930. Renting a car including petrol and tolls would not save you much if anything in cost.
