London Hotel pick
hi everyone,

I just need a quick reassurance that I picked an okay hotel at a good rate. I just booked 8 nights for 2 beginning april 10th at the Park International Hotel for 587 pds for the room total. this was for their superior twin(upgrade from their standard) and includes cont breakfast.

It looks to be a great location off of glouchester rd and right around the corner from same tube station. I have checked the text search and read good things about this hotel. Has anyone stayed there recently in a superior twin? any reviews?

erinb

Erin, I booked the superior room at the Park last year for our trip in May. I think my cost was a little more than yours, maybe 84 pounds per night. Anyway, I decided to keep looking for a "better" deal on the last minute websites as well as londontown.com. About 3 weeks after booking the Park Intl Hotel, I found a deal on the 4* Rubens Hotel across from Buckingham Palace for about the same amount, so I jumped at it. I have since read a few not so good reviews about the Park Intl Hotel, but mostly about the crummy breakfast and the standard rooms.

I would keep the reservation but continue to look for something better at about the same price.

hi bettyk,

Thanks for your reply. The rate works out to be about 73 pds a night. I was getting antsy looking for a good rate for a hotel located in that area and I was seeing alot of hotels booked for those dates.

We were originally trying to find a good 4 star at about the same rate and just couldn't find it. all the specials seem to be taken.

our last trip we spent a lot of time walking to the tube which was about 9 or 10 blocks away. after the first 2 days I had blisters all over the bottom of my feet and ended up having to take it easy for a couple of days or the rest of the trip (12 more days) would have been agony. this trip we wanted to make sure the tube stop was more convienent to the hotel.

my first choice was millenium baileys but the lowest rate I am seeing is around 100 pds or more (with vat). I cant seem to find that 60 pds rate (hey, I know I maybe dreaming, but others seem to have found that rate).

We are actually going to do what you suggested, we have booked the park to be sure we have reservations for that timeframe, but will watch the net for better deals. I think we have until the first of april to cancel on the park if necessary.

I too have read the comments about the breakfast and standard room, but I have read good comments on the superior rooms and the location (1/2 block from tube) is great.

has anyone stayed in the hotel recently? the comments i found on the text search are all for last year.

any help would be appreciated

erinb

..i stayed there a yr and a half ago..the up side-room quite fresh and clean, on the tube line which goes to heathrow, not too far from the vand a..downside..the cromwell rd is fairly noisy, breakfast spartan, and not a lot of neihbourhood ambience..same trip stayed in thistle lancastergate..price about the same, much quieter, room a bit dowdy, more central, breakfast better..so weigh pros and cons..might want to do park international first night if coming in from heathrow..dont worry london is such a great place that youll really only be in your room to sleep..ENJOY

Erin, check out londontown.com and lastminute.com. One of them is offering the Millenium Bailey, Gloucester and Knightsbridge for 72GBP per night for 2 people. However, it doesn't include the 17.5% VAT, so the price is more around 85GBP, which is still a great deal. Make sure the Park does.

Today I booked the Rembrandt through Hotel-Assist.com for 89GBP for 2, inclusive of VAT and full breakfast.

hi liz,

thanks for replying. I saw that rate too...but when I try to book the lower rate seems to be for a single. the actual rate for 2 is the higher rate around 85 pds not including vat. this seems to be norm that i and running into for those millenium and other 4 star hotels. i will see a great low rate like 60pds-85 pds but it will not include vat or it be that higher rate.

the rate i got at the park is 73 pds per night per room inclusive of vat and breakfast.

like bettyk said, i mainly wanted to just get a hotel booked because I am seeing those rooms fill up during that time period. 3 hotels that i looked at prior to this week are already booked solid for those two weeks. the park will be our backup just in case we can't find anything else.

your suggestion of lastminute.com is a great one though. i am seeing some good hotel rates for the last minute time frames (less than 30 days), so we are hoping to wait and see some great last minute deals before we go.

thanks
erinb

I stayed at the Park International in March 2001. The room was a bit small, but clean. Staff was helpful; breakfest was ok (not fancy).

The hotel is close to a tube station and within walking distance to Harrods. I would suggest that you avoid the two Italian restaurants across the street.

I would stay there again, as I found it to be of good quality for the price.

Also try http://www.bhrconline.com/... I have seen some good deals through them, and booked the Grange White Hall in August for £90 a night (including VAT) last year, it was great...
