London Heathrow Transfers
How long does it take to transfer from London Heathrow terminal 2 (Austrian Airlines) to Terminal 3 (United Airlines)?
It looks like my flight arrives at Heathrow from Vienna at 8.45am and my connection is at 10.05am.

Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are right next to each other and you can easily walk between the two or take a shuttle (term 4 is more remote)
But - your connection time is very short. If you can check your bags all the way through you may be OK. Landing at 8:45 does not mean you are in the terminal at 8:45. From touchdown to taxi to gate to terminal can take quite a long time especially in the busy morning hours.

Approximately 60 minutes per Heathrow's site. You should have no problem making you connection, but won't have much time to lag about!

"If you can check your bags all the way through". How could it be possible for anything else to happen?
I ask the question because it surprises my how often check-in staff, mainly in the US, seem unaware that bags in Europe, with a couple of odd exceptions, are always checked to their final destination. (Whether they get there is a different issue of course) Is there something I'm missing?
Richardab. You should have your Star Alliance boarding card for the UA connection already. If so, just go straight to T3. Unless the Austrian flight's really late you'll be fine

Yes I assume I will have boarding pass and my baggage is checked through from Vienna to Newark since i am traveling on Star Alliance. I assume it will be a haul and all depends on a o-time arrival from Vienna. So whats the worst that can happen? If I miss my flight I stay in London a night or get a later connection thru Washington DC. I also assume that I will have to go thru security a second time which means stripping off all the bracelets, watch, belt, handcuffs, rings, chains, hair clips, steel toed shoes, underwire bra, metal glasses, earrings and keys.
What a sight.

Besides for that the hardest part about this flight is that I can't seem to find a cheap flight between London and Vienna. This ticket is coming in higher than my transatlantic fare ($425)!!!!

I can't help you on the security issues around underwired bras. But possible solutions to Vienna/London (none really satisfactory) might include:
- are you travelling one way? If so, try a fictional round-trip, returning to Vienna with a Saturday night stay in London.
- Try Air Berlin, currently offering $99 Vienna-Stansted via Berlin
- Or Ryanair from Salzburg, Graz or Klagenfurt
- Or Czech, via Prague

Don't wear a bra with metal underwire. Switch to ones with plastic underwire. Makes travel much much more pleasant. I haven't been "searched" once since I made the switch. It's worth it.
