London for the weekend

As a treat for my 24 year old son who has been though some hard times lately, I've booked a long weekend for us in London. Can anyone come up with some great ideas for how to spend our time? I'm thinking of special (though not necessarily expensive!) restaurants and more out-of-the ordinary experiences; we've been to London several times and done all the usual touristy things. Help! Thanks.

You can board the Cutty Sark at Greenwich. You can take an hour train to Brighton and look around the Pier and the Pavillion.

Been to Portobello Road? You go on Saturday. I like it in the winter. Fun places to eat which are right on P Road: Grove Cafe - nice brunch food; Bangers and Mash, or Sausage and Mash - doesn't look like much, highly reommended & especially a young person would like the vibe I think.

I like Time Out's guide to cheap restaurants in London - they actually aren't that cheap in any case & TO's judgment is reliable.

If for some reason you don't want to go the theatre, think about a movie at the Film Center which is part of that Royal National Theare complex. There's a very agreeable cafe that's part of the place. If you plan to eat there go earlier that you think you should, they do things slower than a comparable self-service-ish place in US.

You don't mention when you are going. If it is April or later, how about London Bicycle Tours? They leave from Gabriel's Wharf.

3 hours, 9 miles, 15 pounds. I plan to try another of their tours on my next visit.

If you have good weather, take in the London Eye(ferris wheel). If he likes military museums, London has 2 of the best... Imperial War Museum and the Royal Army Museum. If he drinks beer, take him to the Churchill Arms PuNotting Hill area) which has a great little Thai restaurant attached.

Several years ago we went to a great Moroccan restaurant called Momo. I loved the food and it was a fun atmosphere.
