Neal, I just discovered a book called "How to STay in London for Less" by Diana and Ronald Jensen. You can find it on Amazon Marketplace. Anyway, there's lots of recommendations for apartments there. Hope that helps ya....

Did you try Citadines in Holborn. I think it is cheaper than the Trafalgar one and is in a very convenient location. I stayed there a couple years ago.

we are a family of 5 (3 are teenage boys), hopefully visiting London for about 4-5 nights in July - and are also having difficulty finding an affordable room/apt. Could I take you up on your generous offer to make recommendations as above. Tube stop nearby seems to be important in reading many posts.

I take it Priceline is out of the questions for us since we can't guarantee a triple room. Hotel rooms seem to be too expensive, although I am willing to consider. I was all set to give up when I came across your post this morning. I have hope again!!!

it is not that PL just won't "guarantee" a triple room - they simply do not deal in triple rooms at all.

I just did a very quick search at http://www.londonguestsuites.com/ and found 8 properties under $300 per night offering less than 1 week rentals and that sleep 5 or more.

Other sites will give you the same sort of search functions

Some like http://www.priceapts.co.uk/ only have a few flats w/ shorter lets, but have such reasonable rates, you might consider renting for a week and "eating" the two unused nights. The cost per night will still be less than two hotel rooms.

and http://www.homefromhome.co.uk/ only has 1 week minimums - but some real bargains.

With Hotwire, it is possible to search for two rooms for a 5-member family configuration.

Also, consider two rooms at a place like an Express by Holiday Inn.

The LSE accommodation mentioned above would also work well for a family of five.
