London acommodations question

We are traveling to London for 7 days in April. Last minute change of plans. I have only been one time before and I stayed at the Waldorf Hilton in Covent Garden. I like the area and I liked it but I would love a bit more room. I am looking at The Cleremont, The Trafalgar St James, The Thistle Trafalgar Square, and the Royal Horseguards Hotel. All appear to be close enough to sites and underground. Does anyone have any advice? We are going to do the typical tourist stuff.

Hi willowjane, I stayed here:

London (Orbitz had better price):
Strand Palace Hotel
372 Strand, London WC2R 0JJ

It was a 5ish- minute walk to Trafalgar Square, across from the Savoy, and about a 10-minute walk to Covent Gardens. Also, I caught a bus for the Tate Britain in front. Just looking at the map and the Cleremont is closer to Charing Cross station and looks less basic.

IME the rooms at the Waldorf Hilton are larger than at the Strand Palace (though the two times I've stayed at the WH I was upgraded so don't know how small they go).

I have stayed at the Waldorf Hilton (twice), Horseguards 5+ times (over 2 decades), Trafalgar St James once, the Palace once (years ago) , and have eaten but not stayed at the Clermont (it was a Fodors GTG).

My choice would be Royal Horseguards 1st, and Waldorf Hilton 2nd. But I'd be happy at any of them.

Thank you Janisj! We are going with the Waldorf. The room was not available at the Royal Horseguards.
