Loire Valley: Drive from Paris or Tours/Amboise?

We'll be going there for a long day on a weekday in late-May.

I expect to leave Paris around 8am and return around 8-9PM.

Two people travelling.

Should we drive straight from Paris or do TGV to Tours/Amboise and then drive from there?

Thank you.

Have you checked on viamichelin.com? They will tell you how long and how much a trip costs and map it all out for you. I looked just now and Paris to Amboise, by their estimates:

- 2 hr 19 min
- 16 euro tolls
- 13.59 euro in gas/petrol

They have options for how to avoid tolls, too.

You could pick up your car near the Orly airport and avoid the Paris traffic.

Rent your car at the Gare de Lyon, stopping by the day before to get the lay of the land. Very easy to get to the highway from there.

www.mappy.com shows you road signs on the autoroute.

If you can afford it, take a TGV to Tours...takes one hour..and rent the car there. After all that money you saved by doing your own laundry and by packing light so you can live and dress like a refugee you deserve a relaxing train ride which is worth every penny.

Have a great trip.
