Lodging in Rome for tight Budget?
Searched the forum and did not find an answer to my question. Traveling solo on a tight budget and also with poor exchange on dollar looking for tips on accomodations in Rome. I have not been in Rome for over 10 and at that time used the hotel service at Termini train station. Is this still a good option for someone traveling in early June, and if so what would be the lowest amount one could get a room for? Open to any accomodation that is clean and safe aside from dorm style hostel.

hotnphoenix - What is your budget range - e.g. how much can you spend per night on accomodations? (Some people think of a "tight" budget as $150 a night, while to others "tight" means $50). Also, how many days will you be there? (e.g. long enough to rent an apartment?) Fodors is absolutely the best message board with fabulous suggestions - if you find that you don't find your answer on this forum (and if your budget is "starving-student-style" tight) you might also want to check out the Thorn Tree thread on the Lonely Planet site. Just select Western Europe and type in "Rome accomodations" - it might give you some ideas.

I'm sure Fodors folks will come to the rescue though

Try www.cross-pollinate.com
I stayed last October at the Bed & Breakfast A Vinicius in Rome via that website. It's a kind of guest house with shared bath - not really my preference, but it worked out fine, and the place was clean and quiet. Location was not all that convenient to things but once I learned to use the bus system, it was fine. Given the weak dollar I'd stay here again in Rome but I'd probably look for a more interesting location next time.

Well, $50 a night is definitely hostel territory. I beleive even the convents are significantly higher.
Have you looked at venere.com for your dates?
(And in June I would never go without reservations and expect to have much of a choice. Anything inexpensive and decent will have been reserved long since. All that will be left is what everyone else didn't want.)
