Lodging in Rome
My husband and I are planning a trip to Rome in November. We are trying to decide if it would be better to rent an apartment or just do the customary thing and stay in a hotel. Has anyone stayed in the apartments? and what is your opinion?
Thanks
Lois

We recently spent 10 days in a great apartment that overlooks the Pantheon. Although this was our sixth trip to Rome it was the first time we rented an apartment. We loved it! It was recommended by a well traveled fodorite.

There are lots of threads with information about apartments in Rome. We rented an apartment for a week in 2007 through realrome.com and had a great experience. I think you get much better value for money with an apartment--lots more room, the ability to fix your own meals (we did just breakfasts and snacks), usually a washing machine. We stayed in a very interesting neighborhood (the Jewish ghetto)
You can try searching for other threads and will see links to many specific rental units. I think this thread has a lot of good information especially about Trastevere

Another vote for RealRome. We stayed in this apartment http://www.realrome.com/propcappellarisplitlevel.html in May 2008. Tim Pearson is a great guy. The apartment was perfect (even roomy!) for two people, and we were within walking distance of every site in town. We never once had to take a bus anywhere.
Enjoy your trip! Rome is wonderful!

We did 2 apartments over the Christmas week this past year and for the room and price, they could not be beat.
My only problem is that I am a worn out old guy and even though I knew in advance our apartment was on the 5th floor-no lift, I took it anyway due to the fantastic location, size and price. I have to say that every night, upon our return, I cursed those stairs. But I say again, I knew this in advance.
We rented through Sleep in Italy and they were great. Click on my name and you'll find the thread on this.
