Lodging in Basel in mid-June
Does anyone know why there are no hotels available in Basel in mid-June? I know that the World Cup is going on, but that's in Germany! I'm trying to plan a 2-week trip with my wife and can't seem to find any hotels around the time we want to stay. It looks like now we'll have to find another place to stay in the area. It's too bad, because we were hoping to stay in Basel!

Hi kjkendra,
I find that really, really hard to believe! Just last week I got a few offers on Basel hotels for the end of June.
I wonder how you're getting reservations? Are you e-mailing the hotels themselves? That's the best way, I think; large reservations websites may be convenient for us, but they don't have up to date information. Make sure you contact the hotel individually before you write off Basel.

I'll give it a try. I have been using most of the more popular websites (i.e. Expedia, Travelocity, TripAdvisor) for the majority of the trip and have found reasonable places for reasonable rates at every other stop on the itinerary. I've got the entire two-week trip booked with the exception of the dates that we wanted to stay in Basel. Our alternative plan was to stay a few extra days in Alsace and drive down to Basel for the day.
Now I'll try your idea and contact them directly. Thanks for your words of encouragement! Do you have a favorite place to stay?

Hi kjkendra,
Hotel Krafft was recommended to me. I like to have views of water whenever possible, and the Krafft overlooks the river. I think you'll beat me there as I'll be there at the end of June, but I'll certainly post a review of the hotel when I return.
When I e-mailed the Krafft, I got a response the next day.
Good luck!

I emailed the hotel and they explained to me that there is an Art Fair going on that week. That will explain why we can't find a room!
Oh well, now we'll get a few extra days in Alsace and have more motivation to visit Basel during the fair!
Thanks for your help.
