Locanda Orseolo or Antico Doge in Venice

These two hotels have great reviews on this forum..... now that I have narrowed down to these two, can someone help me choose? I have a Superior Double for both hotels with Locando being about 45 Euro more.

Locando:
San Marco, Corte Zorzi 1083
30124 VENEZIA (ITALY)

Superior double room overlooking the Canal Orseolo. 180 euro per night

Antico Doge:
Cannaregio 5643 - 30131 VENEZIA

Superior double, no view. 155 euro
Junior suite canal view, canal view 210 euro

Thanks for your help

You spelled it "Locando" that's probably why you could not find it.

I have posted a few times about the antico doge (in my trip report) and to others who have asked. click on my name for comments. Can't go wrong there.

The Locanda however has consistently gotten great reviews as well. Can't help because never stayed there.

To nbs_mjs,

Ha, I actually saw your post later, because you didn't post by hotel names, I wasn't able to find it right away! I left you a reply there and said I would stay in Antico Doge, but I have since changed my mind. If you go to tripadvisor.com, there are just too many good reviews. It's very rare that a hotel will receive the highest ratings from everyone who have ever stayed there. So I have decided to stay at the Locanda instead. Although it's in the San Marco area (major tourist), but if you read all the reviews, Locanda is actually situated inside a very seperate area behind some courtyard. Their prices are about 40 euros more than Antico, but I think it's worth the money. The owners all sound so friendly and they go out of their way to ensure you have a good stay. It just sounds fabulous. and....... read about people's comments on their breakfast!!! Keep me posted as to what you have decided to do. When will you be going? I will be at Venice early July, 2004 and it's for our honeymoon as well!

I vote for the Locanda Orseolo. The location is perfect and the staff is excellent. The owner Mateo will cook you eggs and crepes in the morning any way you desire. You can not beat that. Even though they do not have a elevator the staff will carry your bags up for you. The Locanda has only been open 8 months so the rooms are very new, spacious and modern. The owners remember each guest by name and are excellent at recomending resturants.

Here's the link to that other thread asking which of these two hotels to stay in (San Marco vs. Cannaregio).
