We will be driving from Liverpool to Arnprior (near Stirling) in Scotland. Approximately how long will this trip take and is there anything of particular interest along the way we shouldn't miss? Thanks!

Liverpool to Arnprior is about 235 miles and if you want to do it fast it is motorway or fast dual carriageway all the way except for the last 20 miles. so plan on abou 3.5 hours w/o any stops.

But you could easily use a full day. Along the route or with short detours you could visit the Lake District, Hadrian's Wall, Moffat (a good place to stop for a "touristy break" - cafes, woolen mill shops, souviners, etc), and Loch Lomond.

The Lake District takes some time to see much so I'd go as far as Carlisle and turn east along the A69 and visit the western end of Hadrians Wall and Lanercost priory. Then after this couple of hour detour, head back north and on to Ariprior. If you are making good time make a short detour from Drymen over to Balmaha on the east shore of Loch Lomond and then you'll be about 20 minutes from Arnprior.

Thanks for the information. I thought 4 hours was about right. We will be leaving Ruthin, Wales early in the morning, driving to Liverpool for some Beatles ambience, then on to Arnprior for a 4 p.m. check in.

You could make a diversion to Bowland Forest, not far out of Liverpool, (wonderful countryside)...try to visit the village of Chipping or Slaidburn (Hark to Bounty Village Pub is a must see).

I found the Hark to Bounty Inn web site and it looks like a great place! Thanks - I was looking for somewhere to stop for lunch and this looks just right. Pan fried monkfish cheeks looks rather interesting....

I live in Pennsylvania and we grew up eating Pig Souse and Scrapple, so it's not as if I won't try something that looks or sounds a bit unusual!
