Traveller said it perfectly.
MEDIA,
If you are ok with ignoring laws then just do it.
If you don't care about not paying your fines, then don't.
If you don't care about safety, then speed.
Your argument about speeding fines being there only to get money is particularly stupid.
Look at the stats of deathrates in France.
Official stats give :
3384 deaths in France in 2016 (meaning how many crippled on top ? twice as many ?)
26% are considered as being ccaused by excessive speed.
880 people died because of speed in France. But obviously you know better and you are a good driver, so the law should not apply to you.
Unfortunately 100% of the peop;e think like you. You are not better than anybody else, so speeding means you are a potential killer of one or more of those 880 people.

Mediasapiens only registered to rant - probably got a few speeding tickets. It's one thing they're efficient at in France!
Shooting at speed cameras? I take it you're an American. We don't need any lessons in road safety from you, thank you very much
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ted_death_rate
fatalities per 100.000 inhabitants per year
France 4.9
Netherlands 3.9
Belgium 7.3
US 11.6
Stricter enforcement leads to less deaths - comparison between Belgium and the Netherlands is a case in point.
I'd be interested to see your statistics that show that not enforcing the speed limit makes driving safer.
PS: if you don't like tolls, stick to the route national. There's always an alternative.

Radar warnings on Sat navs or as a seperate device are illegal.
However a Sat Nav it will often have an option to tell you the speed of the road you are on, and to beep loudly at you if you go over that limit.
Keep going too fast and it gets really cross with you.
Modern digital speed cameras are very hard to shoot/blow up/spray paint.

"Germany has little to no speed limits "
Really? Either you have never driven in Germany or you have never been caught speeding.
On the Autobahns and dual carriageways there are no blanket speed limits, but there are frequently temporary limits for all sorts of reasons and woe betide the fool who chooses to ignore these limits.
The speed limit in built-up areas is 50kps (30mph) and outside built-up areas, 100kps (62mph).

I have to admit I'm very cautious driving in Belgium because they drive so fast.
In the UK, if you speed just a bit you get the chance to be re-trained. The focus is all about the issue that "speed kills" and having been on one I know the statistics are clear, hit a kid at 20mph and you hurt them, hit one at 40 and there is no kid.
Sorry Media, you are wrong. Please don't drive in Europe with that attitude.

Belgium has the worst drivers !
Only places I was afraid when in a car were Greece (they are reckless) and India (they are totally crazy).
1. We have too easy driving tests to get our licence (or had at least)
2. No further tests once you got your licence
3. not enough fines
4. not enough controls
5. we drive under alcohol - mentalities are only starting to evolve with the young ones
And the worst : when we are drunk, we consider that we drive so well that we don't drive slowly -> we get more accidents and worse because we add the speed to it...
Ps : Texas
Saw on TV that you get 30 days of jail in Texas if you speed more than 20 miles above.
this seems to confirm it...

I perfer fines.

I just have to put in a word about the national accident statistics. It's not very meaningful to measure accidents per inhabitant. The Netherlands is a very densely populated country, and distances traveled are less than in France, which is again much more densely populated than the US. You should look for accidents per unit of distance driven.

Whathello, I agree about driving in Belgium. Very bad statistics for drunk driving too. I often hear people (well, nearly always men I must admit) bragging about speed tickets, or about driving home after a few bottles of wine and managing to miss the alcohol control.
Then they go the The Netherlands and pick up several speeding tickets in one single trip. Especially near Amsterdam, where they track your average speed over a certain stretch of road. There's no getting out of that one; slamming on the brake when you see a camera won't help.

I always warn people who tell me they're going to take a driving tour in Europe. They usually don't listen.
I drove in Europe, mainly Germany, for almost two years and never got a ticket. I think it's different once you get accustomed to the rules, signs, etc.; you're less likely to commit a violation. But a quick, two-week trip is a violation waiting to happen.

'Especially near Amsterdam, where they track your average speed '
Cost me 50 € last time ;-)
- There is a little bit less of bragging. Some hope ? -
The last joke about driving when drunk is :
'I listened to them - I was drunk, I took a bus to get home!'
' great - so what's the problem ?'
' well I don't know what to do with the bus'

I have only one ticket in 45 years of driving and it was from a camera in Washington DC. I was merging onto a highway from 95 and just trying to get the hell out of the way and it said I was going 60 in a 50. What! 100.00 it cost me. They sent me three pics of my car.
I know in Germany you have to be very careful and our GPS will alert you to speed changes.

I have most definitely stopped speeding in recent years in France. I used to enjoy seeing how fast I could get the car to go on the A4 autoroute which has endless straight stretches and did not used to have much traffic. I cannot imagine doing such a thing now, although since it is the autoroute to Germany and has the most German cars on it, there are quite a few speed demons.
Part of it is because I have become less foolhardy as I begin to mature, but part of it is really not wanting to receive expensive tickets and lose points on my license.
