Les Catacombes de Paris
I saw on a recent post (in the past week) something about the catacombs being closed. I know they had been closed briefly in December, but I don't see anything on their website about being closed.
Seeing the catacombs is the #1 reason I'm going to Paris next month! Well ... to explain ... they're of minimal interest to me. But DP (who has a definite macabre streak) has always wanted to visit them.
I'm sure we'll have a great time regardless ... but I want to prepare him if he's not going to be able to visit the bones.
Does anyone know if they're open???
Merci!

www.catacombes.paris.fr is the official site. First paragraph is in French, second in english saying that due to technical reasons, closed until further notice. jk

Thanks. That didn't show up on the English version of their website. I guess all I can do is hope for the best.
I have a feeling there might be one or two other things to fill our time ;-).
It's ironic ... the only other time I was in Paris (more than 35 years ago) EVERY museum was on strike. Never saw the inside of a single museum!

Today's newspaper said that the catacombs were closed again due to an electrical failure this week and that they had still not discovered the origin of the problem. However, they were expected to reopen next Tuesday.
You really don't want a power failure in the catacombs.

Who is DP? I don't think I've heard of that designation before.
DH and I went to the catacombs and wished we had not. I was claustrophobic, it was dank and dark and morbid. Not unexpected, of course. I was the one that had wanted to go and we did it on our last day in Paris. We went immediately to a bright sunny sidewalk cafe and ordered wine, a couple of glasses.
Even so, as time has passed I'm sort of glad we went. Just be prepared in case you have the same response we did.
