Leopold Musical at Hohenschwangau

Hi:
Thanks to recommendations here, we are going directly to Hohenschwangauu to stay at the Haus Weiher for two nights after arriving in Munich and before going on to Salzburg. The Leopold Musical sounded good to me until I looked at the prices. They range from EUR 35 for seats way in the back of a big theater to EUR 95. Anybody here seen the show, and is it worth it?

Are you asking about "Ludwig, the Musical". Are you familiar with the story of King Ludwig and his castles? If not, you probably wouldn't enjoy it that much. If so, you might. To be honest, it wasn't a great musical, either the story line (which was hit and miss) or the music itself, most of which isn't all that memorable, but it is quite a well staged event.

We also did a daytime backstage tour which was fascinating. They had warned us it was only given in German and they WOULD NOT do any English translation, but we went anyway, nodding appropriately at the guide. When it was over and we spoke with her and explained we didn't speak German, she was quite taken back and asked why we didn't speak up as she would have given it in English as well. The stage is a huge rotating deal, and part of it opens to reveal a huge lake/fountain used in a couple of the scenes. There is a great deal of techinal spectacular. There are English translations projected onto the proscenium, much like in many opera houses.
Yes, I thought it was worth it, but then I was really into the Ludwig saga, and I'm a total theatre nut.

I just read on Bavaria Ben's website that the Ludwig musical in Hohenschwangau closed at the end of the year.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. You can go to the German "Tickets on Line" and still buy tickets for current performances -- specific dates and times still listed.

Patrick, this info is a surprise for me. I heard they went bankrupt recently. Only very few visitors during the last months.

Many websites still offer tickets to the musical - however according to Suzanne of Suzanne's B&B in Füssen the theater is in bankruptcy and it is closed down. Several other sources have also indicated that it is closed with no plans to reopen. Suzanne should know since she lives there and her daughter was a member of the cast...
