Leaving for Berlin in a Few Hours...
and I'm really nervous for some reason??!! &
I consider myself to be a fairly seasoned traveller and have never experienced this feeling before! Been to Europe hundreds of times (born and grew up in Madrid) and have been to Germany before (Frankfurt) so I don't really understand this! I've never been to Berlin but still.... I feel kind of silly... >

Michelle from New York,
this is just a HEAD UP from a German girl who now lives in the US.
I'm sure you'll be fine!!! Yes, it's a somewhat big city and the weather may be less than nice, BUT...
Go to the Hackesche Hoefe, visit the Reichstag and the Pergamonmuseum. And if you're feeling there's too much German around you go see a movie in the English original (for example on wednesday nights in the cinema called Die Kurbel).
HAVE FUN!

Thank you so much, TopMan. I'm on my way to the airport now. I think I was just uneasy because I don't speak the language... at all! At least I speak Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese and can get around pretty well everywhere. Perhaps it's just that the German language seems so "foreign". I don't know... whatever. I'm only going to be there for four days so I'm sure I'll be fine!

Once more the German in South Carolina: W
hile less people in Berlin speak English than let's say Cologne or other cities in the West, you'll get by without speaking German. Really.
Just ask for help. We Germans are often hesitant to take the first step and offer help as we're brought up to feel like that would mean imposing ourselves onto someone. But if asked for help we're in general REALLY nice. ;-)
