Le Marche to Siena Help

Hello,

My husband and I are planning to rent a car and drive from Ancona to Siena in late August. We already know we will be staying in Le Marche (near Mergo) for the first 2 or 3 nights, but then want to find somewhere to stay the next 2 or 3 nights that is en route to Siena (where we have to be for a wedding). We are more interested in taking it slow and enjoying the region (wine tasting, hiking, etc.) rather than doing a lot of sightseeing and since we are pretty flexible about where we stay, I'm finding it difficult to find a great, inexpensive B&B or agriturismo. Our driving route seems to take us relatively close to Assisi, Perugia and Cortona, so any options around there would be much appreciated. The biggest problem is that we are looking for good value - I've just graduated from graduate school, so cash flow at this point is a little tight! Any help anyone can offer would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Sarah

For some good values in Spain check out bancotel.com, pentrabrax.com, and parador.es.

Do you already have a place in Siena?

I don't know if this is in your price range or the best location for you, but my husband and I stayed at Il Cantico della Natura near Perugia last year and it is quite an experience. (See http://www.agriturismo.it/IlCanticod...ra/enindex.asp) At that time there was some landscaping underway, so by now it must be finished. It's a bit remote, but in a gorgeous setting with lots of hiking all around and the best, authentic cuisine! The owner is an ex-attorney who has lovingly restored the old farmhouse and embraced country living.
