Last night near FCO where should I stay?
I have flown into Rome several times, but have never stayed near FCO. I read on the forum a few months ago about a hotel that was in walking distance of some nice restaurants in Fuminco. I hate to waste the last night of our vacation in an airport hotel. We will be arriving by train from Puglia.

We usually stay at the airport Hilton, there is a short covered walkway from the hotel to the terminal building. But we’re mostly in Rome before our return, so we have an early dinner in town before heading to the airport. I know the Hilton has s restaurant, but can’t vouch for how good or otherwise the pickings are.
Do you know what time you'll arrive, can you stop somewhere en route for a meal? Anyway, others are sure to chip in with advice.

The town of Fiumicino is close by and easy to get to. Last trip we stayed at the Hotel Tiber and it worked out great, and we booked through booking dot com.
The hotel has a shuttle to/from the airport. Not sure exactly you arrarange a pick up - a call or email to the hotel and they could tell you. The shuttle TO the airport was fast and simple. We reserved a seat at the front desk the night beforehand. Shuttle was on time, fast, and something less than 10 euros per person.
For us, getting TO the hotel first we tried an uber, but the driver never showed up, so we took a local taxi. It's a different taxi queue than those headed to Rome.... The driver didn't want to put us on the meter or accept credit cards, which they are supposed to do. He quoted us a flat rate of 35 euros cash - which was probably more than it was supposed to cost but what's a foreigner/traveler to do....
That stretch of Fiumicino there are a bunch of restaurants - we picked one that looked good and fit the bill just right with fresh seafood. I'm sure the hotel could give recos.
Next time I might just stay at an airport hotel and eliminate 2 transfers..

We LOVE staying in the town of Fiumicino, at the mouth of the Tiber. We stay at Hotel Seccy, walking distance of the river and the good restaurants. The rooms vary a lot by category and price; it's not luxury but it's fine.
The best restaurant in Fiiumicino (not only my opinion) is PASCUCCI AL PORTICCIOLO, but there are lots of other places to eat; last year we had one dinner st Pascucci and one at a place serving mainly pizza but other things as well and we liked that very much, too. That one is CLEMENTINA, facing the water:

For people arriving at the airport, there are two taxi lines out front--one for passengers going to Rome center and another for local travel, including the town of Fiumicino. I think the fare is about 10-15 euros but not positive.

Yup, that's the stretch where we were. On a Sunday night in early December there were not many restaurants open. We ate at Tarumbo, a seafood restaurant along the same block as those listed by eks... That stretch of the river is where the large fishing boats tie up for the night. In the morning they were all out to sea well before sunrise. A fare of 10-15 euros makes sense to me, no the 35 we got charged....
