There are a few restaurants and hotels around, plus one large, five-star hotel that is a nice place to have lunch or a snack.

I can second the fact that the tiny hamlet of Brienz in Graubünden has suffered considerable landslide damage but Brienz near Interlaken is still quite intact.

After further investigation, it appears that there is ANOTHER Brienz in Switzerland (Graubunden), and THAT much smaller town suffered the damage, NOT BO Brienz!
Additionally also, that as a solo traveler, I LOVED Rapperswil, just 30 minutes south of Zurich!
Thanks for the clarification! I saw it on the news here in Italy, and didn't realise there were two towns called Brienz.
