Thanks cruiseluv.

We've decided to cancel - our flights had us going through Munich with a stay on both ends and that has just complicated matters with the issues in Germany at the moment.

Perhaps we'll make another run at it in a few months.

Mel,
I'm so sorry that you've had to cancel but completely understand why!
You did such a good job in trying make that pivot work in such a short amount of time.
I do hope that you can resurrect this trip sometime in the near future.

Thanks Maribel. I think the travel gods were telling us to hang it up.

The good news is that the work has already been done for next time - we can just rebook the same accommodation and run with the same itinerary. And this way I'll have more time to finesse the details.

Third time's a charm, no?

I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Thanks, Mel,
Yes, the great thing about rebooting a Portugal trip is that you already have the big stuff completed-- the itinerary and the planning chores done! It will be easy to finesse the details. it will happen, I know, it just has to happen! Yep, third time's charm!

Considering a trip next year, I've been (silently) following along with this thread.

"I think the travel gods were telling us to hang it up."

Perhaps the gods were indeed at work for you!

Indeed Calinurse - better now than partway through a month long trip.

Oh Mel, so sorry to hear you had to cancel this. We still hope to be able to get there in March, this would be the 3rd time...so a charm? Fingers crossed.

Try Nazare

If you are going to Portugal in the Winter some time, why not make a stop in Nazare? It is a quaint little town with a funicular up to the hill overlooking the most gigantic waves ever! The big waves are not pounding every day (I have been there twice...once in December and once in August), but your best chance of seeing the giant waves is in the winter. The biggest wave surfed was at Nazare, so a trip there would be epic, even if you are not a surfer. You can make the stop on the way back from Porto to Lisbon. If you are not driving, there is a bus that takes you easily from Nazare back to Lisbon.
