am due to fly out to carcassone airport with my husband on 9th november '06 for 5 nights picking up a car at the airport.
this will be our first visit. any suggestions of a ideal route in order to see as much as possible in the languedoc region without being too hurried.
also any recommendations for friendly hospitable chambres d'hotes would be appreciated.
thanks.

Here will give you a start for finding things. I think that Stu has a paper about this area. Maybe he'll come onto the thread.

Hi
I would plan to stay centrally, say Sete ? .
This gives you the chance to do day trips :
East to Pont du Gard, Uzes, Aigues Mortes, Nimes, Montpellier even Provence
North to the Cevennes, Millau bridge, Lodeve, Pezenas, etc
West to Narbonne, Cathar country, Collioure, Perpignan, Pyrenees, Costa Brava
Locally around Etang de Thau, Marseillan, Bouzigues, Meze, etc.
Sete is big enough to be interesting, and has a good choice of accommodation and restaurants. It is more active in November than some of the other towns.
Logis de France may be an option. They have many small, privately owned hotels, often in rural areas.

This area of France is likely to be cold in November, and daylight hours are short, so your opportunities are limited. You should try and see one or more of the Cathar castles, such as Montsegur or Peyrepetuse. La Cite at Carcasonne is worth a visit, although it is a largely artifical creation. Castelnaudry to the west of Carcasonne is also interesting, and you should try Cassoulet while you are there. Narbonne (to the east, not the west) and Perpignan are good places to visit. Another Cathar stronghold was Minerve, an ancient village in a stunning location north-east of Carcasonne. If you can, have a meal at Le Relais de Chantovent, and you may want to stay there.
"Au coeur du village médiévale cette demeure, décorée d'oeuvres d'arts contemporains, s'ouvre sur la beauté des gorges de Brian; les 10 chambres nichées dans les vieilles pierres ont chacune leur personnalité.
La salle à manger vous propose des menus
fondés sur une cuisine riche en saveurs en provenance directe des marchés locaux.
Fermé dimanche soir et lundi du 15 décembre à la mi-mars."
I write only as a satisfied customer on more than one occasion.
There are lots of interesting small towns and villages in the area, and places like Pont du Gard and Avignon further away.
