A couple of years ago, I visited relatives I never knew I had, in Rohrschac, Switzerland. This town is on Lake Constance, (Lago Costanza, in Italian). Since the trip was unplanned, I had done no research. The area is lovely, and definitly worth a visit. However, I found out after I had gotten home, that I missed two great sites, both in Germany, adjacent to the town. I don't know if they would interest you, but they are, the Zeppelin Museum, which is dedicated to the lighter than air ships (dirigibles), which were developed by Count Zeppelin, and also the Museum commemorating the Luftwaffe, which was founded there. I don't recall the name of the German town, but it should be easy to find if you're interested. Outside of that, there is a lovely town, St. Gallen, nearby, which is a very interestng place. It has a large area in the center of town which is strictly for pedestrians, no autos allowed.

Lindau and Meersburg are usually highly recommended although there appear to be many lovely, smaller towns on the Lake.

We stayed in Lindau a couple of years ago and thought it was wonderful. This year, we are going to Meersburg in September.

Check out their websites:

www.lindau.de
www.meersburg.de

Both have English versions.

The Zeppelin Museum is in Friedrichshafen. Lindau and Meersburg are good ideas. Dont miss a boat trip over the lake. Or to the islands of Mainau and Reichenau. Bregenz in Austria is also not bad. My old auntie (living in Lindau) recommends small places like Hagnau or Wasserburg. Or just rent a car, tour around the lake and stop at places you like. I did this a couple of years ago and needed several days. Because there are so many beautiful spots. Just look at the Internet for Bodensee (German word for Lake of Constance)and the English version.

ditto to Lindau - on a narrow peninsula jutting out into the lake - neat old town... hard to beat.

I'm very fond of Meersburg, much more than the town of Konstanz, but perhaps that was because our room in Konstanz wasn't ideally located. In Meersburg we stayed at the Gasthof zum Bären and had a room with a wonderful oriel window. We enjoyed the trip to Mainau. I wish I had known about the Luftwaffe museum. I know I would have enjoyed it.

We will be staying at http://www.hotel-schreier.de/ in Lindau.

Hope this helps.
