Lake Como and surrounding area
I am planning a trip to Lago Como, Lago Maggiore, Lago di Varese,Bellagio, Pilatzio. Any tips on these areas? I have heard there is an area on the other side of Lago Como in Italy that is not so touristy and much more beautiful. Any idea where this is?

Well, I'm always amused and also amazed at the vast numbers of people who think they will find the perfect place that is more beautiful that anywhere else, but somehow no one else has yet discovered it. In fact, if it is beautiful and really worth seeing and staying, then it will absolutely be touristy -- make no doubt about it.
Not unlike the common "I want a great restaurant in the heart of Venice that tourists don't know about". Huh???

Around Lake Como we found the best way to get away from other tourists was to walk higher in the villages. We travelled to the various villages by ferry as do most, but many do not make it past the first block or two from the dock, so keep walking up. The view back to the village and the lake and the peace and quiet are worth it!
