LA POSTA VECCHIA, LAZIO
Hello
Has any one stayed at the hotel, La Posta Vecchia, in Lazio. It is 1/2 hour outside Rome on the sea.
We were looking for a really nice place within an hour of Rome for a last 2 nights. Any suggestions. Thanks, Joan

Hello
Thanks so much for answering. I have just read different reviews on the property, some good some bad regarding food, rooms etc. For the cost, it should be a high quality establishment and is a Reais Chateau property, not that it can't have problems.
I was also looking at the Castello Dela Castelluccia, a castle outside Rome north. But the staff doesn't seem to reply very quickly. We are use to 5 star hotels with excellent service, so just don't know where to stay for our last 2 nights. We need to be not too far from the airport.
Thanks again , Joan

Do you want to be away from Rome but convenient to the airport for an early morning flight or do you want to be convenient to Roma and the airport?
The reason I ask is because the most convenient thing to do if you don't mind Roma is to stay in Roma in a luxury hotel and have a car service take you to the airport.
Otherwise, Villa Clementina on Lago Bracciano would make it somewhat easy to daytrip into Roma, but you've got a longer drive to the airport than were you staying in Roma. There is also I due Laghi on the other side of the lake, but it is remote (almost creepily so) but that would put another 20 minutes on the trip to the airport.
I have always wanted to stay at the quirky Rodrigo de Vivar in Ostia, overlooking the ruins, but it might not be upscale enough for you.
I think if you want the kind of plush La Posta Vecchia offers, that's about it in proximity to FCO but outside of Roma proper. Surely there are good restaurants in the vicinity you could drive to or take a taxi to and from if you'd rather not drive after dinner.

Hi
We want to be within 45 min. of the airport. When we arrive in Rome, will be staying 2 nights at the Hassler, then on to Tuscany and then Amalfi coast, then back to Rome, but have 2 nights there, basically l day free.
I will look up the two you suggested also. Villa Clementina and I Due Laghi, if I can find them.
I wrote to the La Posta and extremely expensive just for a superior room and you cannot even choose or request sea view until you get there. Just leary of it, though could be fine when there. I am not sure I would like the superior rooms and can't afford 700 eur. for suites at this point of the holiday.
Thanks again for all your help. Maybe better if we just go back to the Hassler for the last 2 nights, just thought country would be a nice rest. If we can go back into Rome that day, great , but not necessary.

La Posta Vecchia was home to JPGetty the oil millionaire...for a fraction of the price you can stay in one of the magnificent villas featured on www.elegantetruria.com itineraries . Near the airport is Fontana del Papa that also does cooking classes , near Viterbo there is Villa La Cerretana.

That area, near Frascati and Castel Gandolfo, probably has more luxury choices, but I think the risks with these places are wedddings, or places frayed around the edges. Rome itself is frayed around the edges, so while you may have a spectacular secluded park setting, what's just beyond it may be uninspiring.
For huge money, I would probably opt for La Posta Vecchia, because the sea is marvelous no matter what. But if for huge money you are expecting something flawless, you are more likely to find that in a superior Roman hotel that cultivates an oasis feel.

Hello
Thanks so much for helping. I still might consider La Posta Vecchia.
There is a wonderful looking inn at Rieti, Borgo Paraelios, was a Relaischateau. But think they are closed in November. Would love to be in the mountains.
