Best Place to Stay Last Night in Italy
Hello there,
My family of 7 (all adults) will be visiting Italy in Sept. We have apartments/villas for 1 week in Rome, Amalfi Coast, and Tuscany.
We will be spending our last night, Sat Sept 22, in Rome, flying out Sunday morning around 10:30am from Fiumicino airport.
We cant decide whether to stay in Rome, or by the airport...what would you do? We are travelling somewhat on a budget, wouldnt want to spend more than 125-150 euro a night on accomodations.
Thank you so much!
Jamie

I would normally not suggest not staying in rome for every extra minute, but you are seven, and you'll have been there for a week, and both other places for a week, so maybe stay near the airport?
You can possibly drop off your rental from Tuscany (assuming you will have one) on the last night.
I am not familiar with airport accomodations, but have looked at Ostia several times. Pick a place with food and an airport shuttle, maybe near the beach (?) and spend your very last night relaxing, eating, and going to bed early for the morning trip to the airport.
We have stayed at airport accomodations a couple of times, and though it isn't my dream come true, it is sometimes the most comfortable and convenient way to get out of town for a long distance trip.

Hi J,
We stayed at the Holiday Inn EUR Parc Medici - about 10 min from FCO - about 120E/nite.
They have a free shuttle, but it runs on a schedule - call them.
It is an International Style hotel. Has a very good bkfst and a decent restaurant.
Truthfully, we were happy to switch to a modern hotel after 3 weeks of "charming" accomodations.
That said, next time we will stay in Rome.

We had the same dilema when planning our trip last year. After booking the Airport Hilton we changed our minds after encouragement on this forum to stay in Rome our last night--thank goodness! Best decision we made. Staying near the airport would have been mistake--our last night in Rome was wonderful. I can't help you with hotels in your price range but I'm sure someone else can. Enjoy a great trip.

Thank you for the quick replies!
Yes, it does seem more logical based on your replies. We will be taking the train from Orvieto, so we can take the Leonardo Express to the airport after getting off the train. I guess we can always take the train into town again if we wanted.
Thanks again! I will check out the places you suggested.
