Doesn't make sense, but perhaps because I need two rooms? At the Marconie website they give me a double @ 500EU and a superiour at 580 for October 25-28, 2005.

I just tried through Veniceby and I get a rate of $ 295 or 330EU... could that be where you looked kappa?

I'm shocked at the discrepancy for the same days! Now I'm going to call AAA about the Giorgione - they booked for me first time and perhaps one of their consolidators is holding rooms? Worth a try!

I decided to read a review of P. Seguso on Trip advisor - it was somewhat mixed and may appeal to some people, not to others based on what you like. Good news is that the TA reviews are really detailed and you can get a good idea if it meets your needs.

People say its charming, but old, great location, but beds are hard. One person says if you like true hotel "amenities" - then dont choose. Someone said it was like staying at Granny's villa - they liked it but that it might not meet all tastes. All said it was clean and in a good location. There was one very negative review where the person said it was torture to stay there.

So, you might want to check it out.

On TA - I searched by area (dorsdoro) and its under B&B.

FYI... I did just find availability for the Giorgine through a website http://www.hotelsrus.co.uk/search.php

Now I'm thrown into utter turmoil! It is $257 (yes USD), but I might just say yes. I'm checking more sites for other prices... I'm shocked that the hotel can't override the rooms it had given away through booking agents.

I should also note: we just stayed at the Giorgione for 3 nights this year. The quality of our room was pretty poor considering its high cost. You might check out my recent trip report for more details. I'd happily stay at the American again, though. Loved every minute of it last summer. =) Enjoy...

I might have done something wrong, but on expedia.com the Hotel Marconi had availability for your dates for $161. a night. Maybe the $500 quote was for the three nights. Good luck.

I know yipper... I just learned it doesn't always pay to go through the hotel. There IS availability online for the Giorgione, and the Marconi is certianly showing up to be cheaper.

I promise I'm not crazy, Marconi's website really does give me a 1500EU total for 3 nights, but other booking agents are significantly cheaper. What a lesson to learn - I always thought direct through the hotel gets you the best service & price.

travelphile, I got those prices on Marconi's own website too so I don't know what we did differently. You can see them either on the site's availability calendar or fill the form and click on availability. In anycase, I hope things will work out for you.

Per the Hotel Marconi web site: 2 double rooms for 3 nights each = a total of 1500 E on the web site. Is that what you meant to request? It could be that you entered the # of persons in place of the # of rooms? That's not to say you couldn't do better price-wise on a third party site or simply by negotiating with the hotel.

Long shot but try Ca' Gottardi (www.cagottardi.com). Tripadvisor lists it as a B&B instead of a hotel, but see the write-up there.

I'll be in Venice on Oct. 21-Oct. 24 and I had trouble booking Pensione Accademia and La Calcina because those dates are all booked up.

However, I tried Locanda Orseolo (sp?)and the only availability they had was for October 25-28th. Which is perfect for you. I read great reveiws (if you do a fodors search, you'll see that its a favorite among fodorites.

Try and check with them to see if its available. They sent me an email about a week ago. Good luck!! Oh and the rooms were going for about 220E. It's a little higher then you want, but it might be worth it.

By the way, I booked the American Hotel for 250E per nite. NO canal room. Is it worth it to pay an extra 50E for a view?

I gather you have gone to Tripadvisor.com. I've booked rooms at the Hotel Ai Mori D'Oriente. It got rave reviews; and although it's further away than most, it's a 4 star hotel with a 3 star price. I booked through venicenyce.com and got by far the best rate. 650 euros for a double superior for three nights in September.

It was not worth it to us to pay for the view from the American. As I said, we had two canal rooms on our last night. It is a small canal with no real "action". It was pretty, but we left every morning after eating breakfast at 7:30 and didn't return (except for one person to run to a room and drop our things we had bought)until after dinner around 10:30, so we just didn't partake of the view very much any way. Our other rooms earlier in the week looked out over the rooftops. I guess it would depend on how much time you plan to actually spend in the room.

When we stayed at the Leon Bianco on the Grand Canal, we liked the rooms with view better, but we were served breakfast in our rooms, so we could sit at the window and enjoy the view each morning as we ate.

We liked Antica Locanda Venezia - charming B&B type hotel. Not on a canal, but has a charming roof top terrace and is only a few minutes walk from San Marco.
