Aside from the castle (which does not interest us) what is there to do/see in Durnstein? We like boat rides even if the scenery is not that good. Its a relaxing way to go.

When I was there in June 2013, there were taxis at the boat dock. It was a lovely day.

BillT, I was in Dürnstein last week; our teen daughter and her visiting friend wanted to climb the rocky path up to the castle ruins. I opted to wander the town, passing mostly shops selling marillen-themed products and typical souvenir-tchtocke, in about an hour. The town is picturesque; there is a small stift to visit, and a number of heurigen (wine taverns) sprinkled throughout, all pretty much offering the same fare. I picked up a few bottles of local wine, but that was about it.

As I recall Durnstein is small and compact - you may not find much to amuse yourselves there - like if not in a visit to the iconic Austrian Heurigen - a cute town but small. Maybe stay on the boat if not interested in those or the castle.

check boat schedules if getting off - to see how long you must wait for the next one - an hour or so fine - more you may be twiddling your thumbs it seems.

It does indeed seem that the consensus top sights in Durnstein are the castle and the raft of wineries - those could make for a good meal and local vino, causing one to linger a tad longer than thought!
