Konigsee or Wolfgangsee for a stay of 3 days ?

I programmed to visit the aerea of Salzburg for 3,5 days.
The opinion of some friends on the forum suggested me to skip Betchtesgaden ,because it is not possible to visit salzburg, hallstatt and some villages in the wolwgangsee in 3,5 days.

In this case could you advise me what is the lake that it worth for a stay of 3 days between Konigsee and Wolfgangsee.
Yours

I have been to Koenigsee twice and Wolfgansee 6 times so I think you know which one I am going to choose! We love St. Gilgen, St. Wolfgang and Hallstatt.

And Salzburg is a lovely town, one that we have enjoyed visiting many times as well. You can't go wrong with whatever amount of time you have in this area IMO.

I agree with Bettyk.
You can stay at St. Gilgen and visit the others easy enough.
Hallstatt is the outlier but only 2 hours.

From your other post, it appears you have a car and will be sightseeing in the area in August?

What are your interests? I write the following as one who has visited the Salzkammergut in all four seasons for one reason or another, and love the area: the villages around Wolfgangsee (St. Gilgen, St. Wolfgang, Strobl) are lovely, but in the absence of a "special offer" (for example, Christmas markets) really only offer the summer visitor water sports, hiking, golf, and photo opportunities. And tourist crowds.

Hallstatt is picturesque and worth a visit, if the surrounding mountains are not covered with summer haze or clouded over from rain. If you can spend a night, you'll be free of the day trippers who crowd the few streets angling for the "perfect" camera snaps. If the weather is hazy and hot, or wet, skip Hallstatt.

If your question is one of which lake to "base" at, I agree that somewhere along Wolfgangsee would be the most practical.

I hope this is helpful.

Thank you very much for your replies.

I decide to stay in the Salzkammergut region.
But unfortunately i fidn't find an accomodation either in Fuschl ,Sankt gilfen or in Strobl.I found dome free hotels in the small villages around the aerea luje Faistenau and Ebenau .Those places are only for sleeping. But they are centrally located between Salzburg ,20 mn,Berchtesgaden 30 mn and Wolfgang am see 20 or 25 mn.

As i have a car ,do you think that this option could be a good altetnative as a base to visit the region?
Best regards

Riadhou, when are you traveling to the Salzkammergut region? We have always stayed at a lovely family run hotel in St. Gilgen (originally recommended by bobthenavigator!!) called the Hotel Schernthaener. Maybe if you contact them directly, you may have some luck.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Peter in Wolfgang...unreal views. Agree with others - anywhere on Wolfgangsee will be wonderful.

Hotel Schernthaener is fully booked.Hotel Peter didn't have triple rooms for the period of my stay.

I found an apartment in St Gilgen for 4 nights in august.

The only problem is where to park the car in Salzburg.

If anyone could help for the easyest way to park the car near the old town ?

Altstadt Garage, the one inside the mountain, is where we park when we drive to Salzburg. The location is convenient for sightseeing, and *some* restaurants and stores will stamp your ticket to give you discounted parking.
