Knightsbridge too noisy?
i recently read a post where somebody referred to the Knightsbridge area as noisy....i WAS planning on staying at the Knightsbridge Green Hotel but if it's a noisy area perhaps i should reconsider. We all prefer a quiet area of the city....any ideas?

Hi
The K'bridge Green Hotel is right on Knightsbridge I believe, and that is a busy street, thought not by far the busiest or noisiest. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there for that reason. It's a very convenient location. I would ask for a room facing the rear perhaps.
If it doesn't have a/c, you'd want to be able to open the windows for ventilation, which would increase the noise factor.

Glen,

Almost any hotel that faces a major street in London can be noisy. That's one reason that I recommend hotels with airconditioning: not for the temperatures as much as for the ability to sleep with your hotel windows closed. The Knightsbridge Green Hotel is near the junction of Knightsbridge and Brompton roads...both major streets...although I can't comment on this specific hotel.

There are hotels that are located along less-traveled roads, and the person who mentioned the Mayfair area is on to something. Mayfair is the high rent district, and it some very busy roads too, but up above Picadilly (street) in the heart of Mayfair, there are hotels located on the squares and smaller streets of this neighborhood. The same can be said for several other areas of central London.

You can judge the locations of many hotels for yourself by using the interactive Tube maps provided by London Transport. Go here:

http://www.transportforlondon.gov.uk/interact/

Pick the graphical map selection, and then zoom in on a Tube stop, selecting the "local map" for the area around the stop. The detailed map shows many hotel locations and you can often tell which are on major busy roads. If you did this for the Green Park tube stop in Mayfair, you'd see some of the off-the-main-drag hotels like Chesterfield Mayfair, Hilton Mews, Washington, etc. The tube maps don't show all hotels (in fact they don't show the Knightsbridge Green Hotel).

Hope this helps,

David White
http://www.KidsToLondon.com
