Kiki question on Positano, others jump in too
Hi all:
I mentioned Kiki in the title because I know she has stayed at Villa la Tartana. My question is... how does the Villa la Tartana compare to Villa Rosa? I was all set to book Villa Rosa for next May but after reading her trip report and looking at Villa la Tartana's web site, I'm thinking of staying in one of their suites for $145 per night.

I'm looking for opinions on which one I should choose. Steps (Villa Rosa) aren't a problem, I prefer a nice place with good views. I just think that a suite for this price is a great deal.

Any comments or advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, the rooms at Villa Rosa have private baths. I just tried to book room 18 and it was alread spoken for. I wanted it for May of 2003. I ended up getting room 21 or 22.

Below is the email reply I received from them....

We have the availability of a beautiful double room (large bed or twin beds?)with private bathroom, t. v , air-conditioning, fridge, terrace and sea view for the period requested, arrival xx th may, departure xx st may (3 nights). The price of the double room is Euro 130 daily, including continental breakfast served in the room, all taxes and service. The room 18 is already booked.

Look at http://www.villarosapositano.it/rooms.htm
So you won't have any surprises, the Villa Rosa has a killer set of stairs to climb; I think somewhere someone said about 75 steps or so. I stayed next door, and while the hotel looked fine, those steps looked like a lot to come home to after walking up and down the hills of Positano!

Hi Mark,

Thanks for reading my posting on Villa La Tartana. If you are really into seeing the view in Positano, then stay at Villa Rosa. I saw some of the rooms there and they were nicely sized. Yes, there is a set of steps to go up to, but it didn't bother me. If you are prone to not wanting to do alot of steps then perhaps Anna's suggestion might be a good idea. I am going to check out that hotel's website, for the next time!

Reading this thread, 2 comments pop into my mind: first, folks must really be traveling--in Feb. of 2001 I booked double room for May in Villa Rosa (loved the hotel, a slew of steps, but worth the climb!), and second, prices have certainly gone up, possibly since intro of euro--we paid less than $90 for the VR room, wonderful view of sea and mountains.
