Help Finalize Positano Hotel Choice

My short list for positano hotels in october is: L'Ancora; Villa Rosa; Bougainville; and Casa Cosenza. I realize my choices run from simple pensione to nicer hotel; so does price - 104E to 260E for a triple room. Know many of you recommend L'Ancora. Is it worth the diff. in rate? Anyone stayed at my lower end candidates? Would appreciate feedback. Thanks.

We stayed at the Villa Rosa 2 years ago in May, when it only cost ~$90! It is a lovely little hotel with lots of charm-- and a more spectacular view of mountains and sea I could not imagine. There is a thread on here now that shows pictures of it, and if you do a search, you will read lots of good things about the VR.

I stayed at Villa Rosa in late May in room 29, and our friends in room 30. Just had a look at the photos of room 18 which has a large balcony, but I think 29 was better. We had a large, private terrace with garden, and a huge bathroom with bath, but room 18 seems to have only a small shower. The view is slightly obscured by Le Sirenuse across the road, but rooms 27 and 28 would be good. The rooms were air conditioned, and very fresh - possibly just renovated or painted. The staff were very friendly, and although we found the continental breakfast very good, you could have cereal and fruit too if you asked. Complimentary coffees and cappucino all day and night too! There is one catch - there are 63 steps up to the front door of VR, but then, the rest of Positano is up and down too! You have to work off those calories somehow!

Hello Amanda- are you still out there? I am hoping to book the Villa Rosa for its views. Do rooms 27, 28, 29 have as nice a view as Rm 18? I know room 18 has been recommended a number of times before but no one mentioned the size of the bathroom. Grazie

Amanda, one small correction. There are 73 steps.
