We stayed at the Aurora two summers ago and had a lovely time. Family run, clean, comfortable, right on the Piazza delle Erbe, though not noisy. The receptionists were extremely friendly and helpful. One surprise for us: we chose the hotel for location and elevator since one traler was recovering from a serious car crash. Yes, there is an elevator, but not from the ground floor. You must climb one twisting set of steps to the lobby, where you can then get the elevator.

We stayed at the Belvedere. We are not hikers and the climb was fine. I never understood what the big deal was.

The view was fabulous, the room was great, and we loved all of the action in Bellagio. Varenna is a little too slow for us.

Thanks Ellen. You're not the only one who makes typos. I meant to say "Verona"!

I agree with Teach905. The walk to Belvedere is not that difficult. The town is built on a hillside and all the sidestreets run up and down so you are constantly walking up and down the steps. But it's not that bad. It is some effort if you are hauling large pieces of luggage but there are taxis available. Belvedere is only a five minute walk from the upper part of town which we found contained the better restaurants anyway. I also agree that the smaller towns are a little too slow for us. After hearing some people complain about Bellagio I expected it to be much larger - it is still a very small town but in my mind has just the right amount and variety of dining and shopping options.
