Just back from Paris- best macaroons in the world at Pierre Hermes
Had a wonderful week in Paris. We stayed at Le Bristol- it was perfect. Had a 15 course meal at Guy Savoy- worth every penny. And yes, you can wear jeans and even tennis shoes in Paris- many of those staying at Le Bristo did. I even saw one French woman wearing high tops. My best hint- buy some pastries form Pierre Hermes at 72 rue Napoleon in the St. Germain area. You'll have to wait in line for approx. 30 min. but they are definately the best I have ever tasted including the Macaroons. He put Laduree's to shame. If you have any questions, I'll be happy to reply.

Hi Carla,
Our family of 5 will be in Paris in July. I'm curious about the cost of a 15 course meal at Guy Savoy. With 5 of us it may be totally out of reach. Our kids are 11, 13, and 15. Maybe they don't even allow children. Did you wear jeans to this restaurant?
Thanks,
Joan

Lol~
jeans are ok for the kids and young people going walking, sightseeing.
but when you go to a restaurant at night, you really should dress a touch better, the French are more formal and like people in the US,appreciate it when someone gets dressed to eat out.
Guy Savoy is a very expensive 4 or is it 5 star restaurant.
Men wear jackets,ties/suits,women wear dresses/suits/good clothes.Same with the kiddies.
And it depends on the age of the kids, some really good restos in Paris do not love to have kids dining in the evenings.

Joan, the prestige tating menu is 180 euros per person. The food and service is really good. The restaurant just got the 3rd start from Michelin. A dinner for 2 with wine is anout 350 euros. I did not see any children but that doesn't mean they are not allowed. Everybody was well dressed (no jeans).
You can check the menu in www.guysavoy.com

Dear Joan, as the others have described, My husband wore a suit and tie to Guy Savoy and I wore designer evening wear. The dinner for two cost about 600E- that included champagne aperitifs and a 150E bottle of wine. Our dinner was truly a gourmet's delight and lasted four hours. The tastes and flavors were beyond compare but I would not take my children there. Besides the cost, it has a very intimate and sophisticated atmosphere. Let me make a wonderful suggestion. We ate at a bistro called Le Grizzli- the address is listed in the Fodors. It is located on a beautiful, leafy, tree-lined street at the edge of the Marais. The atmosphere is quintissentially Parisian and the food is delicious. Afterwards, a stroll in the area takes you past some very lively clubs and lots of young people- you can even wear jeans there if you want to. By the way, I only wore jeans when sightseeing- you can dress them up with a chic top and one of the new jean jackets but be very comfortable at the same time. I have another hint for women's travel wear which I discovered on this trip and will post separately.
