Just back from a quick trip to Prague
and wanted to thank everyone who supplied me with suggestions. It was a very much spur of the moment jaunt and not much planning went into it. My DH took me away as he was worried my guy wouldn't win the Presidential election and I would be massively depressed. This won't be a trip report as we really didn't do much but walk around, look at people and buildings and discuss our goals and desires for the next year. I had been before but I was solo that trip so it was great fun to show my husband all the beautiful buildings and sights of the city.
We stayed at the Riverside which was a total gem. Loved it. We had a great room on the 4th floor overlooking the river. Everything there was very well done...the decor, the staff, the free (FREE!!!) minibar, the free internet, umbrellas when it rained, etc. Have nothing but praise for the hotel.
In terms of meals we ate at some great places and some that were not memorable. We happened upon Cafe Savoy early in our trip and it quickly became a favorite breakfast spot. The place was always packed with locals and it was a wonderful place to linger over a croissant and the paper which we did every morning. It was interesting to go to the Franz Kafka Museum and read about the central role the Cafe Savoy played in his life.
In terms of dinner our favorite spot was Kampa Park. It is expensive but no more so than a nice place here in Minneapolis and our food was quite delicious. I had the gold risotto with lobster which was outstanding. I would recommend it.
We also ate at the Thai place Maitai Tom recommended...Orange Moon. I was concerned about suggesting Thai to my husband while in Prague (we tend to like to try the local cuisine as much as possible when traveling) but his response was "We can't find decent Thai in Minnesota so why not?" The food was good but the meal was most memorable for the drama of the lady at the table next to us passing out (drugs? alcohol?) and all the excitement of the ambulance and police taking over the restaurant.
Not a lot to report but I thought the hotel and restaurant info might be useful to future travelers.

taitai,
I have friends in Prague and am hoping to visit them in the next year or two. Good for you getting away during the election. I understand being massively depressed. I have worn nothing but black everything since election day. I am in severe mourning and scared to death of our future and what's going to happen to our country.

Prague is a beautiful city and I loved visiting it again. However, I can't see going back for a long time....too many places I have not been once to go somewhere else three times. We had a great trip and I hope, if you visit, you check out some of the restaurants or the hotel I suggested. We had a wonderful experience with them and I hope others will as well.
However, I must say that for us, the visit was a celebratory one. No depression at all. We were actually quite thrilled with the results of the election. It was fascinating to read the local papers and see the European news stations and read how they were covering Obama's historic victory.
Hope you get to visit your friends!
