Jungfraujoch for SFr. 64 (w/ SFr.100 Coop purchase)
Purchase SFr. 100 of goods at a Coop grocery store and get a 1 coupon for the Jungfraujoch for Sfr. 64 instead of SFr. 181. Good from Sept. 21 - Oct. 25. If you purchase SFr. 200 worth of groceries, you'll get two coupons.
You can use the RETURN ticket anywhere on the line starting at Interlaken Ost and ending at Jungfraujoch. It's an incredible offer.
Two children up to 15 travel for free with every voucher.

Hi Schuler, does this mean I can go from Basel to Jungfraujoch and back for 64 francs?
Also, I assume it's second class, can it be upgraded to first class?
Finally, with my annual half price abo, I can buy a first class day pass good for travel anywhere in Switzerland for 100 francs...they said that included the Junfraujoch, but I'll doublecheck that.
Thanks for the head's up.

Hi Passerine!
The COOP coupon is only good for the Berner Oberland train, meaning anywhere between Interlaken Ost and Jungfraujoch. I don't think they have a first class section on that train.
If you have a GA and use the railaway offer, you still must pay SFr. 74.40, which is a very good deal from Basel to the Jungfraujoch. You'll have to pay more if you upgrade.

I'll print the Coop offer out and see what the people at the tourist/travel office think (near Barfusserplatz, aka Barfi, not at the train station) and ask them to do a comparison. They're very good at that. Can you use Reka checks to buy the ticket? That would make the deal even better.
I plan to spend my "13th month" check on annual first class GAO passes for me and DH, good for all of Switzerland, so for most of our Swiss travels in 2010, there will be no ticket buying at all...just wake up on Saturday mornings and think...what do a I want to do this week-end? Lunch in Geneva, a hike in Gstaad? A mini-break in the Ticino? And head out the door. We hate standing in lines at the train station.
FYI, if anyone needs to get travel advice and buy tickets while they're in Basel, the Barfi tourist office is so much better than the train station. Quieter, shorter lines, less hectic.

Given that the price of the Jungfraujoch return ticket from Interlaken Ost is 90 chf, even with a half fare card, the 64 chf price is still a bargain. From Lauterbrunnen a half priced return ticket is 80.70 chf, so the Coop discount card is still a bargain.
I had heard that hotel business in Switzerland was down this summer even if the apartments in Lauterbrunnen were well booked for the summer. I was unable to be there this summer, but I still looked at the availability picture for Lauterbrunnen.
Even next summer is partly booked, some 10 months in advance.
Even September was well sold.

Bob/Schuler, actually, we can do a little better without the coupoon. Working with the SBB reise staff at the Barfi office, we found that we can get a first class return ticket for 131.80 sfr total, which includes IC train fare from Basel and Jungfraujoch.
Bob, there are specials available to Swiss residents with the year-long half-price abo that are not available to visitors with the monthly half fare card.
At any rate, it's academic for us, because we will probably wait until 2010, when we'll have our first class Swiss GAO, which will cut the cost even more (if you don't count what we've paid for the GAO to begin with).
But for most people, it is a good deal.
