Yes,

Well wasn't that special...now back to reality!

Owning a piece of art work is just that...owning it. I may or may not wish to preserve it for future generations...it is my call because I OWN IT!

And as far as "Sammy's" SUV, until wackos like you get enough other wackos to vote and make them illegal, I have every right in the world to own and drive it...so go and ride your bike!

US

I'd say that owning a piece of art or an old historic house is like having a dog or horse. You have bought the animal and "own" it. However if you ill treat it you will be prosecuted.
As for SUVs, you should pay extra for the pleasure of owning them and in California we hope to achieve just that.

I'd suggest that you better hurry and raise those taxes quickly, because all the people with any sense and that can are leaving Califronia and moving to Nevada for lower taxes and more opportunity!

US

While you're at it, I'd suggest you tax anything that moves...then you can overcome the deficit Mr. Davis has created just for you!

I found the Dateline special with Patricia Cornwall very interesting. And, as I recall, didn't some DNA match with Walter Sickert? I know that it was not a clear match, but some DNA did match...I believe the DNA was taken from a personal letter of Sickert's. And while I agree that it is intruiging to consider the mystery of JTR, I think that a better mystery would be what connections does JTR have that have protected his true identity for so long? Is there some force keeping JTR a mystery? What is there to lose if the truth is uncovered? I would claim that any mystery can be solved, i.e. the pyramids, ancient lifestyles, and that Scotland Yard could not be so stupid that they could not solve the mystery of JTR. Perhaps JTR is England's answer to our own American mystery......who is Deep Throat? I expect that you may have also seen that Dateline special!

Uncle Sam is a flag waving, ultraconservative idiot that lives by the conservative agenda that states that he must be allowed to do anything he wants, whenever he wants regardless of how it harms future generations. Of course he can justify it by calling people wackos and saying that since if more people than not support his agenda, than it must be right. He doesn't care what happens to his children, grandchildren or his great grandchildren as long as he gets to continue to be the greedy, self absorbed slime bag that he is. Yes he has every LEGAL right in the world to own it and drive his SUV. He doesn't recognize that he has a MORAL obligation to protect the planet for future generations. Now, we can always hope that he didn't spread his seed and procreate. That would be handy for him, because he wouldn't have to worry about future generations of his own off spring...and great for the rest of us because at least one gene pool spreading arrogant, selfish seed would have come to a screeching halt.

Yes, the notion that if you own an object, you have every LEGAL right to destroy it, is true. But once again you DON'T have the MORAL right to do so if that object has some greater value to humanity. You would think that a morally correct conservative like US would grasp on to that. But morals are only good if they serve your purpose, right Uncle Sam?

Here,

Of course I understand the need to conserve our resources and help the environment...it's one reason that I recycle.

I just do not agree with the kooky science and the political correctness of the whole thing. I find it interesting that you get all uptight and pontificate about my drving an SUV.

So my SUV gets about 3 to4 MPG less than another car...your point is?

The earth is a living creation that has done just fine for millions of years.

It has survived a whole lot more than my SUV and will continue to do so. Heavens to Betsy, ever heard of an ice age, numerous vlocanic eruptions, an oil spill in Alaska where the environment has now healed.

The earth can get along just fine wihtout panic stricken science and earth worshipers.

But here's a suggestion, I'll drive my SUV and you drive your Hyundai or whatever...and you go your way, and I'll go mine...but go spread your guilt elsewhere, I'm not buying!

US

BTW, of course I know that the owner of art some responsibility not to destroy the art, moral may be pushing it somewhat, but my point was they can destroy it if they choose..they do own it!

Uncle Sam, you couldn't be more wrong. Driving your SUV is very destructive to both the environment and our country. The millions of people in America who drive SUV's pump a huge amount of pollutants into the air, and on top of this, guzzle an amazing amount of gasoline.

Everytime you fill up your 15 mpg PoS you create a dependancy. With our growing of gas guzzlers on the road, our dependance on other countries for oil gets larger and larger. And the majority of this dependance falls onto one region.. the middle east. Not a place most people would want to be dependant on.

Buying drugs funds terrorism? No, but buying gas does.

Hi,

No I'm not wrong...we are dependent upon ME oil for one reason and one reason only...the wacko environmentalists do not want us drilling for oil in ANWR, the Gulf of Mexico and California.

There is plenty of oil there and we need to go and get it. In addition, the Russians can provide, along with ourselves and Mexico enough oil for our requirements 300 years. In addition it has been proven that enough oil leaks out into the oceans naturally to meet our needs. We just need the technology to go and get it. And what is amazing, all that oil that leaks naturally is just that...natural...and guess what the earth takes care of itself without our best intentions.

Get your story straight please. And BTW, I wouldn't bet that we currently buy more oil from the ME than we do from Russia and Mexico.

US

There is only one vague description (fairish hair average height wearing dark clothes, moutache) of any value and no other rock solid evidence.

There is no great conspiracy (IMHO) just a mystery that people hang their own thoughts on.

I though Alexander Hague was Deep Throat?

ASD,

How utterly stupid...a lot of rain equals a weather change?

Come on two winters ago we had our 2nd highest amount of snow in over 100 years in parts of the NE...does that mean we should be concerned about the new ice age?

I feel for the people of Prague but your comments are ludicrous!

US

Uncle Sam have you ever heard of cause and effect? Have you ever wondered why horrible things happen in the world? I'll tell you why...a lot of it is down to people in positions of power who abuse that power and abuse the things over which they have power. Cycles are put in motion. Destructive cyles. Its just a fact of life...disagree? oh what a surprise. The point is that these cycles of behaviour can be changed, even reversed and the world may become safer, cleaner and people, animals more happy. But with people like you in the world its difficult to see an end to the abuse. Go smell some flowers this weekend son....

Arrogant,

Since these are the worst floods in 100 years, care to provide me with the cause and effect for the floods 100 years ago.....my SUV perhaps?

Or are these just rains that happen, like volvanic eruptions that have absolutley nothing to do with wacky environmental theories!

US

"Buying drugs funds terrorism? No"
What an absoulte stupid statement. Now if we were to legelize drugs, that would take the 'profit' out of them since they are so cheap to create. In addition it would reduce crime drastically and we would not have pushers in our schools trying to sell them to support their own habits.

I am no scientist and evidently neither are you US. But I would point out that there was a rather unenvironmentally sound industrial revolution in full swing just over 100 years ago. I would also suggest that if polar caps are melting and losing billions of tons of ice yearly then it may be a good idea for us to consider our role in all this. People in the US, Australia, Britain etc are free to do what they want and I reckon should shoulder more responsibility as a result...then maybe the Churchillian view of the political world order espoused by Bush and Blair may hold more weight
