Its ok to go to Lourve and not bother with the " La Giaconda" .
Its ok to go to the Eiffel Tower and not go up( the views can be found from other places) .
Its ok to wear white runners.
Its ok to wear jeans.
Its ok to take a tour if you feel better, they are not cheaper or funner, but they are dead easy and a good way for some people to travel.

Its not ok to not learn any of the language, its lazy and arrogant.
More people speak Chinese in the world then english,, how do you like that, so if we are only going by numbers ,,, it would be ok for some tourist in your town to walk up to you and start talking Chinese and getting huffy that YOU don't understand??

Its not ok to talk loudly and laugh out loud while touring through churches,, it shows a shocking lack of respect,,it may not be your religion or believe system, but shut your mouth and don't diss anyones elses.

It's (alright, all right, fine, dandy) to visit more than three chateaus in the Loire or three Italian hill towns in one day.

It's all right to make (the inevitable)mistakes along the way,as long as you're willing to laugh at yourself when you do.

my tips is not to pack many dressy clothes
i did for my first trip and never took them out
especially the skirts
but i live in jeans and would rather wear a dressier top with them than put on a skirt
i dont wear high heels at all when travelling but thats because we dont go out to concerts at night etc
and only frequent the cheap restaurants

for the most i stay dressed in the same clothes all day and go out in them too ( the only time i did change was when we travelled with a tour group because wed be carted off to some sanitised version of a local experience)

for dressier occasions i might wear moccasins and i always pack a few scarfs and pashminas to vary the look

i am not going to bother packing snacks bought in australia but i will take some nescafe when we go to russia
i rarely have a good cup of coffee o/s and id rather have the familiar taste of nescafe than something i pay a huge price for and fail to enjoy
