Italy - where to spend an October weekend?
My boyfriend and I will be spending a 10 days in Italy in October. We have a free weekend between already scheduled events. We are currently debating between Cinque Terre and Almafi Coast/Naples. This is our first trip to Italy. Any experiences or advice is greatly appreciated.

It may depend when in October on the Amalfi Coast. I think many hotels, etc... start shutting down for the season in October. Definitely check on that. The AC is gorgeous and I expect the weather in October would still be nice.

We really need to know where you're coming from and going to after, otherwise the time and logistics to get to/from somewhere could make it unrealistic for a weekend.
That said, we've been on the Amalfi Coast in the last two weeks of October and haven't found many hotels and restaurants closed. Public transportation, however, reverts to off-season schedules in the middle of the month.

Sorry,about the omission of info. We will be in Rome both before and after the weekend I'm asking for help planning. It seems that both of the areas I mentioned were doable from Rome. If I'm wrong definitely let me know. Like I said, first trip to Italy!!

It would take less time to get to/from the Amalfi Coast than the Cinque Terre. But do you know what you'd want to do in each destination? Two days on the Amalfi Coast wouldn't give you much time if the things you want to see/do are not actually on the coast. I.e., Pompeii, Capri, Naples.

Bologna for the food and architecture. Two hours from Rome by train. Beautiful city. Could always take a side trip to Ravenna.
Of course if your interests are different..........
Naples..........
Or a coast hotel.........
Or Palermo (one hour flight)..........
Or Florence .........
Or Dubrovnik (obviously not in Italy but doable by air)
