I hope to see a good match, with goals I don't enjoy myself very much if a team wins too easily (except it is Spain, of course ) so I hope the US team will make Italy work a bit !!!

Finally!!!

So,somebody, a foreign government no less, is speaking out against that horrendous multi-colored newspaper that messes up all major airport waiting lounges and gates?
In this case, Go Italy !

I can't believe the attitude expressed here, one hears that US-landers are such big sports fans (even if some of the sports mentioned on a concurrent thread about tbe world cup hardly strike one as sports in the athletic sense, and OK so grown up USers are not such big (soccer) football fans,

BUT show a little pride guys, your national team made it into the world's biggest and greatest sports tournament, get behind them and root for them, who knows they might even win, stranger things have been known to happen in futbol, ask the Italian 1990 squad.

And in some way that should be meaningful?

Soccer Highlights Film: one goal and 10 shots of players crying over a kicked shin or faking injuries.

That's nonsense. Americans do care about soccer. The fact that this board is frequented by oldtimers who never played the game does not mean that our young people are not gathered around bars and having parties watching their team.

We may not be well represented this time but we definitely love soccer as much as anyone else. We enjoy all types of sports, soccer is just one of them.

Well done USA! Even though it is only midway through the second half, the Italians are put to real hard work and the Americans are one man down and even have the guts to create a chance or two for themselves.
Italy and their World Cup aspirations.... What a joke they have been until now.

Good on you, Americans!

A really intersting game, and there did seem to be several thousand people in the stadium dressed as USA supporters. The American team showed great athletisism and determination, and deserved at least the draw.

and who cares ? most of the sporting world, that's who.

A very very good match !! Great playing of the US team (a bit naive sometimes, you have to be mentally quick against italians !!) but on the whole, I think they deserved a best result, playing with 9 most of the second half. Italy, as always, very conservative playing..but they are efective..they have a good ball and score..others have a hundred and don't..that's soccer life !! I hope US has a bit more luck against Ghana, but these are REALLY hard
