Thanks, Bob.

Pawleys,

I suggest lunch outside at La Loggetta underneath the Loggia with the great view of the Palazzo del Comune just across the piazza. Second choice would be Osteria del Teatro, Via Maffei, 5 (or try dinner there). As for things to do, we just wandered the town, exploring shops, cafes, piazzas, and churches. Note that there is an upper town with several churches and a fortess, which exploring will provide an aerobic workout as well.

FYI, we stayed at the Hotel San Michele, the only other 4 star hotel of the trip besides the Villa Cheta (the others were B&B's or agriturimi). It was an elegant and beautiful historic hotel, just off the main piazza, right in the center of town. Doubles for 135 euro.

Thank you for sharing your travel experience Russ. How long was the drive to Maratea from Positano? Did you rent a car from Positano? I believe we are going to be staying in Positano for a few days. I was wondering if it is worth the drive to Maratea.

I replied to your other post, but just in case.

From Positano to Maratea is about 2.5 hours, however we stopped in Paestum on the way, which I highly recommend. I would not do this as a day trip. Maratea is more of a place to unwind and explore than a "destination".

We rented the car at the Rome airport and had it all through our Tuscany, Amalfi Coast and Basilicata portions of our trip, returning it at the Naples airport for the flight home.

By the way, you can check out routes and travel times anywhere in Europe at http://www.mappy.com/

Have fun.
