Italy trip help itinerary

Hello. I posted elsewhere about starting in Switzerland and going by train to Cinque Terre but we (my wife and I) have decided instead to fly into Venice and out of Florence, and go to these cities plus Cinque Terre. I have the guide books and have looked through them, I'm not concerned about where to stay (except maybe suggestions for Cinque Terre, but more how long to stay at this point.

We have 10 nights. We will leave on 9/20 and arrive the next lunchtime. And we fly home on 10/1. I am thinking of 3 nights in Venice, then train to Cinque Terre, 3 nights there, then on to Florence for 4 nights. Does this sound ok? I'd also sort of like to squeeze a day in Sienna but figure this may be just that, a squeeze and we don't want to rush too much. Is this worth a day trip? Or should we spend the night there if we choose to go and lose a night in Florence?

As far as CT--we are a pretty laid back middle aged couple, more into ambiance and food than a lot of hiking (but we will hike, just not the purpose of the trip). We don't care about nightlife, other than food, and the beach. So Manarola looks interesting, but not committed to this. Any suggestions? And suggestions about hotels in CT? Budget not a big issue but would like to get a nice view and get value. Thanks!

Your plan sounds good to me! If you are likely to have jet lag upon arrival, you might want to have some extra time in Venice before leaving for the Cinque Terre -- just plan on getting to the Cinque Terre in time for dinner.

I loved Manarola and was very well satisfied with La Torretta:

Hope that helps!

THat plan works. Use a day from Florence to see Siena. Plan on all day and take the bus---about 1:20.

3 3 4 is good but since you arrive in Venice midday you might want to go 4 2 4. You could leave Venice early your last day to get to CT .

Venice has much more to see than CT.

Every 5Terre village can be visited in much less than half an hour! They just look amazing from the hiking trails and from the boats.

Shortest train connections Venice - Monterosse (5Terre) via Florence or via Milan, about 6 hrs.

I agree with 4 2 4. These are all great places to visit, but Venice is like being in another world. You can easily spend two days strolling about and visiting sights. With a third day, I would go to Murano and Burano. And whether you decide to stay a night there or day trip from Florence, Siena is not to be missed. There are wonderful restaurants there and it is very beautiful in the evening as the sun sets.
